I have gone on record here having repeatedly stated if we are going to properly evaluate Mason he has to be given regular first team snaps starting in the spring.

With that said, the deer in the headlights look he has, particularly in the Detroit game, I’m no longer a believer.

I say give Him a whole season 2 see. Bring Someone in 2 challenge Him. Some say we don't need much. Well I believe the worst team in rush defense in the league needs something more than a new Qb. Also our best CB will be gone . So add that. We don't know if Tuitt ever comes back.
Alualu was out 6 games last year, 15 games this year. I somehow don't think that will be better adding another Year.
Edmunds gone(thank you). We hope (hope) Bush is better. Heyward is kick A$$, but is going 2 be another year older.
    This is just on Defense.
Yet all We need is a QB????

Why the hate for Ray Ray? He's done nothing to warrant this kind of treatment. He's played pretty well this year. Outplayed Washington. I hope he's part of the ream next year

I do not hate Ray Ray... quite the contrary. I do enjoy Ray Ray but mainly as a fourth option. I say fourth as Claypool really is best served in the slot should JuJu elect to leave; something I SERIOUSLY HOPE he does not. Having Ray Ray as the fourth option greatly enhances the passing attack as he is more suited towards picking up yards with the fourth best CB on him. I state this because he is second all time in the lowest YPC by a Wideout who has a minimum of 50 catches; Patrick Hape (a TE for the Broncos, Texans and Bucs) being the first.

None of this is a factor though regarding the bigger; Claypool not being played to his obvious strengths is something that I have been preaching about since the back half of 2020. However, I should have realized that Claypool's best moments at Notre Dame came in the slot. He is a deep threat.... but not the consistent one this team needs. Now, how does any of this relate to Washington?

Washington was drafted to be the deep threat initially but... did not work out. Claypool was next and... that has not worked out either. That said, given the fact that Washington's best usage is at the Z Spot and Claypool's at the slot, using a Return Specialist for a role that he simply is not accustomed to doing is more so of a coaching issue rather than a player personnel one.... unless there is something else at play here that has not been reported yet.

I agree he functions best as the fourth option. But it seems there are many on here that just hate the guy. I have no clue why that is. He simply goes out there and does what's asked of him.

Given how poorly the WR Room was after JuJu was lost for the season... I give Ray Ray nothing but credit for that. If anything, Ray Ray has shown the most effort of any WR this season.... and I mean any WR. He is no where gifted as Diontae or Chase (not even close for that matter) but what Ray Ray lacks in talent, he makes up for in heart. Realistically, here is another question to ponder...

What is up with Anthony Miller? I was excited when we got him but... he has not been seen in action at all this season.

No clue about Miller. I thought he was going to be a contributor as well. But he just disappeared

The run defense isn’t as bad as their bottom league ranking. What drags them down is explosive runs and scrambles. Also, Bush was horrendous in run defense.

Work on improving those two areas and also hope Bush can get back to where he was pre injury and things will be a lot better.

Which is why you run from Watson and his legal issues
    .

They're smart to trade the bank for him. Now if just someone is foolish enough to take the bait they've set. 3 1st rounders with 2 2nd rounders?

A wrong decision there can set you back at least 5 years.

I bet someone pays it in the QB desperate NFL

Mason will be the starter next season.
We miss out on Pickett and Corral.
Steelers go 6-11 and then they draft franchise QB#1.
I still want a big tall QB that can sling it, really dont want to see a runner.

look at how many picks the browns have used looking for a guy like deshawn watson over an 11 year period and still dont have their man. 4 1st, a 2nd, and two 3 rds.
    3 1st and two 2nds would have been a bargain for them...lol

    2018 - 1st Mayfield
    2017 - 2nd Kizer
    2016 - 3rd kessler
    2014 - 1st manziel
    2012 - 1st wheaton
    2010 - 3rd McCoy
    2007 - 1st quinn

Uh oh we're using the Browns as an example. Might as well have gone back to include Tim Couch lol kidding.

Finding a Franchise QB is a crapshoot. It'd be interesting to see how many round 1 QBs end up being busts.

Another interesting study would be how many franchise QBs have been picked in the later rounds.

    Joe Montana 3rd round
    Drew Brees 2nd round
    Dak Prescott 4th round

I won't mention Tom Brady. Ok I did.

It's really a crapshoot, the experts are often wrong, and there's always diamonds in the rough

Good post I'd be amazed if the Steelers actually pulled off a trade like that.

Oh well Colbert's probably in his last year might as well go out with a bang

Sure hope they don’t try the diamond in the rough route, may surpass the gap between Bradshaw and Ben.

Mason will be the starter but I believe that either Sam Howell or Malik Willis may fall to us in the second round and be groomed as our next starter.

2nd rd? I don’t think either one escapes the top 10 in this QB hungry league.

It’s a conundrum, I get it. But I like that we got a know stud in Minka for a first rounder as opposed to another 1st round gamble bust.

I would do that every year if I could. Get a player who is proven, understands how the game is played at the pro level and the expectations etc.

The excitement in the draft is so fun but I can trade that for a much more proven player.

We don't like him getting ten targets a game, he has one of the lowest yards per reception in the league.

Garappolo wouldn't be the worst option for a stop gap. Not a top tier guy, but they're not getting a top tier guy at this point. With a strong D and a good running game, he could keep the Steelers competitive.

I will take Mason over just about any veteran QB out there. Even if the pipe dream talks of Rodgers or Wilson would come true. That would be a long term cost that would haunt us for years.

Aside from his SB win and MVP, he is also unbeaten when facing Brady.
