If the Steelers Tag Haskins' on February 22nd, does it mean anything?

I know this would guarantee him a 1 year deal at 2.5 million, but does it prevent them from doing anything else with the #3 spot?

I am still hoping they brings Dobbs back to compete for the #3 and bring in a qualified Vet to compete with Mason.

Does a Tag for Haskins mean he gets the #3 spot and if so, what does that do to possible Veteran and Draft picks?

I saw this morning that PFF's new mock draft has the Steelers trading our #20 pick to the Raiders in exchange for Derek Carr. We would have to give up our first and third this year and also give the Raiders our first next year. Plus inheriting all of Carr's salary. I don't know it seems kind of a steep price to pay.

I actually think He is shorter. Not going by Height listed, but by My supervision. LoL.
    Great avatar by the way.

Steelers unofficially name Rudolph as the starter. Colbert stated if the season started tomorrow Mason is the starter. They are planning to add QBs to the roster during the offseason whether it be a veteran or through the draft. I know many fans may not want to hear that, but I think they have to do it. They did the same thing with Tommy Maddox when Ben was drafted. They said he was the starter and Ben was actually 3rd string while Batch was the back up. Of course, we all know the story of what transpired. Point being, they have to name Mason as they can't afford to have egg on their face if things don't go well with the draft or they bring a veteran starter who couldn't make it elsewhere, plus risk shaking Mason's confidence.

I have to share that I was on a flight out of Dallas a few days after the 2004 draft. This guy gets on the plane wearing a golf hat with the brim pulled as low as possible over his eyes. Turns out it was Tommy Maddox headed to Pittsburgh after the draft. I was a fan of his and figured he would still be the starter. A few of us wanted to say hello and wish him well after we landed, but he wasn't having it. The minute the plane touched down he had his cell phone to his ear, walked through the airport, through the monorail and straight out the door. As soon as the automatic doors opened his cell phone went in his pocket. I'm sure he was not happy and wanted to avoid any conversations about it let alone I'm sure there would have been a fan feeling they had to express excitement over Roethlisberger rather than wish him well. I can't say I blamed him for what I believe may have been a fake phone call. Still a fan for getting us out of the Kordell experiment.

Wife just saw an article in Fakebook that the Steelers are clear front runners to get Deshaun Watson. Something about a connection with Flores. Is the guy even going to be eligible? Is so, would we want the baggage?

YouTube has had a lot of Watson coming to Pittsburgh rumours today too. The posts were saying that Watson either wanted to play for Flores or Tomlin. Now that they are both coaching the same team, the conclusion was that Watson would soon be a Steeler. However this is all on-line rumours with probably no facts to back it up just some hunches.

Just because the Steelers hired a coach with pending litigation which isn't of physical harm doesn't mean they're now gonna take on a QB with pending litigation of serious matters. I think that's a part of the rumor mill logic.

I don’t see how any team could trade for Watson until his legal issues are sorted, which is some time away.

The media have little to talk about right now and these sort of baseless rumours fill column inches for them. The Steelers would have to be completely stupid to make a trade for Watson, who may be facing a very lengthy suspension depending on how his legal situation plays out.

Watson is not a thing. He's vey likely not playing this year. He may never play again.

I'd sign Trubisky. I'd also consider Wentz but only if he got released. There's been a lot of random chatter lately about the Steelers and Winston. Meh. Mariota would probably get hurt signing a contract. That's about it. There are other bad options out there like Fitzmagic, Teddy, etc. For a decent guy like JimmyG there's gonna be a big cost, which is not worth it. I also think they'll take a QB in Rd.1 and that could be any of 5 guys, all of whom have some big issues.

You can't have them signing a top free agent and then a month later using a 1st round pick on a QB!

One of the big plusses Pittsburgh has to a Vet QB, is that they only have to beat out Mason Rudolph and the starting job will be theirs for years to come.

Depends on the age of free agent QB whether they still draft one.

There are no top FA QBs. There are some project guys who will likely get a 1-2 year deal, like Trubisky. Even if they sign one, they can still draft a QB this year if they really like one, which they seem to. None of the QBs we might take are ready to start right away. They can say whatever they want to the press but I doubt they have much faith in Mason or Haskins either.

This is becoming my favorite option. Bring him in to compete, but if it is at all close, the job is his.

I'm just pulling for Mason to work his butt off this offseason and come ready and prepared to win the QB job without an issue and has a great season.

I fell off the Mason/Canada bandwagon in the Detroit game last year.

All offseason I was hoping Ben would not return and Mason and Canada would be let loose to showcase Canada's game plan along with Mason's talents. Then the Detroit game came along and Mason looked worse than he did in the 2019 season. He had not gotten better at all!

Fingers crossed we sign a new Vet QB in the early weeks of free agency this year, and do not wait until after the draft to bring in a free agent QB for that 4th arm like they normally do.

I honestly hope he , and anyone in the Qb room gets a chance 2 compete.
I mean truly compete. If they bring in someone that they put more money into, or a bunch of picks into.....it will not be an actual competition .....no matter what they say.

I'd probably go with the 1 and 3 this year, and maybe a 2 or 3 next year for Carr as long as the Steelers could work out an extension before the trade as Carr is going into the last year of his deal.

Derek Carr is a good QB that if he had been part of a stable organization the past 8 years probably would have been to a SB, defiantly a couple of AFC champ games. He's only 30, mobile, strong arm, and can win games if given a supporting cast.

Depends what it costs to get him. I know people are saying Naggy ruined him and perhaps that’t true but thats what everyone said about Gase ruining Darnold. Turns out Darnold just isn’t very good.

Trubisky isn’t great either, accuracy and consistency were always issues in Chicago, regardless of what Nagy did or didn’t do Mitch Trubisky was missing open throws and making too many mistakes when he was on the field. There were times where he was very good however.

He is almost certainly better than Rudolph, has some mobility and experience and is a decent bridge option that won’t break the bank and won’t require a trade. If they are bringing in a free agent to compete with Mason while they rebuild the rest of the roster Trubisky is a good fit.

This is just what most say about Qbs they thought for sure would be good ,and weren't. Excuses.
