Am I the only one that thinks this guy doesn't understand his own words?

Just stating the facts. First year - 0 production. Second year - give him 7 out of 10. Consider he took our best lineman - minus 2 points. So he ends his second year at 5 out of 10. For his 2 year tally - 5 out of a possible 20 points. All that matters is how much you help or hurt the team, not whether you are a good guy or it was an accident or some other excuse. The production of this guy is a disappointment so far.

Considering they are paying Jason Worilds 9 million dollars to play next season when he has shown that he couldn't beat out a rookie for a starting spot that was his to lose, got that job back because that rookie proved to be a bit over his head, didn't really light it up from the right side and finally showed some spark when he was placed on the left side in for an injured Woodley, I would say based solely on that metric alone that DD should be just about ready to make a mult-year 40 million plus contract extension.

    First year a zero?
How can get get a zero on a test that you were unable to take.
Ill give you the minus 2 for his bad block in his , 4th game??( correct me), as a pro. He was a rookie last year. For the benefit of your arguement he was a second year player come week 13. As everyone, myself included, agrees there was better play. The best way to know an offensive lineman is doing well is you never hear his name during a broadcast unless it's a giant mistake or a great block.

I heard his name against green bay last year. That run from bell that I'm sure we have all fallen in love with was right through decastro.

I think the arrow is pointing up for DeCastro. To my eyes he improved pretty substantially over the course of the 2013 season, and I expect him to be a solid cog in our line in 2014. I'm not ready to book his ticket for the Pro Bowl just yet, but when I go through our roster and mark off which positions I think are fully covered, I put a big check mark next to starting RG.

On the Pouncey play - I think that Pouncey was at least 50% at fault for his own injury. In the ZBS, he was not supposed to stay engaged while DeCastro (correctly) came in with the cut block. Yes, DeCastro showed a lack of awareness by not recognizing that Pouncey wasn't blocking the play correctly, but Pouncey not blocking the play correctly was the first in the unfortunate chain of events. If I recall, Tomlin even said as much after the game.

You said that you don't care about blame, but then give him a -2 for taking out the best lineman. Sounds to me like you do care about blame.

I'm with you, Elvis, with regards to check marks (though I stand by my Pro Bowl prediction). I give Center, RG, and RT (Adams) a big check mark when thinking about offensive line. Beachum has shown promise at LT and has definitely had the most success of anybody on the roster. To really get a check mark at LT in my mind we either need to draft in the top 5 or make a huge free agent signing. Since neither is likely, Beachum is our best bet. LG, however does not get a check mark in my mind. We need an upgrade at this spot.

No hate. Just looking at production. He has had 1/2 a good season out of 2. We have him for what - 4 or 5 years? We are halfway through that. No guarantees we can or will sign him again. Maybe he can have 2 great years coming up, but right now he is a disappointment.

Sean Spence doesn't suck - you would have to actually play for anyone to make that judgment. Not a huge disappointment - just a disappointment. He was only a third round draft pick after all. Bust I would agree with.

Right. And that's the point about Decastro's 'production' - he wasn't playing for just about all of his first season due to injury.

What I would say, is that Decastro's start to the NFL has been less than fortunate - he had the potential to dominate from day one, but that injury, then the revolving o-line, then the Pouncey thing (had to have knocked his confidence), all worked against him.

Still, at the moment he's a very good Guard. Next season I fully expect to see him become a superb one.

Lets not forget Decastro lost his rookie year the same way Pouncey lost last year....Friendly fire from his own line.

I get what HugeSnack is saying; you say you only care about production, not blame. But the very next thing you say disregards production and focuses on blame (ignoring his better play in his second season because of blaming him for making one mistake).

In regard to the original question; the Schein article is a load of bunk. No basis for it, and I expect DD to just keep getting better.

Never said pro bowl, but I'm sure it's in his near future. Barring injury and coaching carousels he is a stud and will be for awhile. Sorry, I don't have a scoring system or rely on how others award grid iron points. He's a good lineman that's all I need to know.

sure the initial shellshock was there (understandable)

    butt

2 guys played and played their ass off and it was freaking awesome

had really thought he moved on to Miami already

Well considering they couldn't run the zone without him, Id wager a guess that they missed him.
