More than likely it's first year at $2 million and 2nd year at $3.5 million. Makes it easier to cut him next year.

    Only problem with that ....
    1. You need more than one for depth
    2. If the pick doesn't workout...., or He needs a year , or more to be good... You're F**ked for this year

Ok, back down the Excitement.... He is 33 years old. Wow that is like 107 years old in return years. :)

Anyone know of any player having return ability at 33+?

Based on everything I've read, there are two plug-and-play centers that should be ready to step in and start from day one. Jackson Powers-Johnson might not even make it to the Steelers at 20. I have seen mock drafts with Zach Frazier in the first round. He will probably make it to the second round, but there is a very good chance he will be gone before the Steelers' No. 2. The other top center mostly played tackle at BYU, so counting on him to start this season would be a big risk.

The Steelers had a chance to take care of this problem two years ago at this very spot in the first round two years ago, but they didn't even go to Tyler Linderbaum's pro day. They chose a quarterback, one they gave up on way too quickly, rather than a center who will probably be in the middle of the Ravens' line for a decade. If Powers-Johnson is there in round one, he should be the pick.

I'd imagine there's a really good chance he will be if he's there. I still would like to see a Boyd signing because we are currently a Pickens injury away from the worst WR room in the league, but aside from that I think C, WR, slot CB, and T are going to be the first 3 rounds. Its kinda just lining up to be the case.

I always thought/hoped Chase Claypool could be like C. Patterson.

Go get Claypool for cheap! Let him be taught.

Correct, we got 2 starters in last year's draft with Jones and Joey Jr. Plus Benton, Washington and Herbig all played a lot. Drafting a starting center and WR is not far fetched at all.

Maybe they will draft two receivers that will make up for the loss of Diontae.

Tomlin/Khan didn't attend Jackson Powers-Johnson pro day either, I doubt he will be the pick at #20, Pat Meyer was there FWIW.

As others pointed out, that was the practice under Colbert. That doesn't mean it is the case with Khan.

How many times does it have to be explained, Oregon's Pro Day was the Tuesday before free agency started. There were 0 head coaches and 0 GMs at their pro day.

Tim Brown had an 88-yard punt return at age 35. Andy Russell was 33 when he returned a fumble 93 yards for a TD.

From a Google search: Mel Gray is widely considered to be one of the greatest return specialists of all time in the NFL. He holds the record for being the first, second, and third-oldest player to return a kickoff for a touchdown (33 years, 276 days; 33 years, 235 days; and 33 years, 221 days).

That's no excuse, you think if Bama, Ohio State, or Georgia had their pro day on that Tuesday that Tomlin/Khan wouldn't attend, they rarely attend the pro days out West.

It sounds like they will drafting a day 1 starter after listening to Tomlin yesterday.

Nor should it be, handles the football on every play, calls out blocking assignments. Snaps
the ball. Look how good Baltimore and KC have done with Rookie centers. Go get some one that wants hit
and is accurate with his snaps in shotgun.

Patterson has been a decent as a slash RB/WR... a good tool to use.
He brings value to the team as a Special teams player.
The signing doesn't warrant much reaction, I'm not sure he makes it out of camp unless he locks the spot on ST's.

    RE: Center.
Our Center depth stinks. 2 guys that maybe shouldn't even make the final cuts.
You really need to pick up at least a decent depth signing. You can draft one.

    OT is concern for me.
For me, it is hard to imagine a trade back from the 20 spot... I've just never seen that as making much sense. That's just me though.
I imagine they'll put the nets out and see what drops to them at 20.

All good info, but Russell wasn't exactly Mel Gray on that return. Look at some of the quotes about it from the time.

Then why is it an excuse for every other team? Or would you prefer we didn't have Wilson, Queen, and Elliot just so some Colbert-era rule doesn't screw up your draft predictions?

    Oh really?

how many can’t miss prospects miss? Is there any guarantee one of the plug and play centers will be available to them? What happens when a generational talent fails to them, but they have to draft a center?
