Interesting. Is he still explosive? He was a threat in 2021 and 2022. I don’t know if he was injured last year, but I don’t remember ever hearing about him or seeing him in 2023.

Well, with the new rules, there are probably going to be a lot more kickoff returns.

It appears they’re doing everything humanly possible to improve the team except signing a mother loving center

I like this move if he has anything left in tank and didn't overpay!

Patterson on Kick Returns and CA3 on Punt Returns. That should help out the offense. I’m a fan so far.

Always felt he was a bit of a swiss army knife. Could be useful in unexpected situations especially as Arthur clearly knows him well.

Nice get. Fun RB room, for sure. Roster filling up with a few big holes left.

A whopping 220 total yards last season.
Seems like another low level signing.
Boyd is not going to be a Steeler.
    WR room is not good.
Another Falcon or Titan cast off.

He was stuck behind behind Bijan and Allgeier. Two stud RB's who combined for over 400 carries.

Damn, I thought that was overpriced for a 3rd string RB / Kick Returner.

But, then I saw what he made in Atlanta. I still don't understand the math on his last contract. $5mil Bonus, 2 year contract with avg. yearly of Salary of $5.2 adds up to $15.4 million right?

    https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/pittsburgh-steelers/cordarrelle-patterson-12309/
Cordarrelle Patterson signed a 2 year, $10,500,000 contract with the Atlanta Falcons, including a $5,000,000 signing bonus, $5,000,000 guaranteed, and an average annual salary of $5,250,000. In 2024, Patterson will earn, while carrying a cap hit of .

I have no problem at all with Arthur Smith putting a giant thumb print on this offense. I can't remember the last time the Steelers had an OC, actually in charge of the offense. (Todd Haley?)

I was really hoping Arthur Smith was bringing his TE, Jonnu Smith, with him.

2 years at $2.75 million. $5 million signing bonus, split over two years. $5.25 million/year. In reality he got $7.75 mil the first year and $2.75 million the 2nd.

Steelers didnt waste anytime moving on that once the new kickoff rules passed.

Nice pickup for that. Anything else you get out of him is gravy.

We needed to upgrade the #3 RB position, Patterson does that and as a bonus is a great kick returner.

Agreed, but I would still hate to see them go into the draft without signing a starter at receiver or center.

Not injured but the Falcons stopped using him last season. Im assuming his touches went to Bijan Robinson.

Steelersrock is correct. The $5M signing bonus was part of the $10.5M overall, not separate. It's paid upon signing (hence the term), but for accounting purposes is prorated over the length of the contract. So, here, $2.5M/year. That leaves $5.5M in base salary, which the team (with player's approval) can assign however best fits their cap constraints. But it is generally reported as an average, which makes it easier for players to see the value of their contract against others at their position.

So for Patterson, $5.5M in base over two years = $2.75 APY (Average Per Year). $5M signing bonus prorated over two years = $2.5M. $2.75M + $2.5M = $5.25M APY. $5.5M base + $5M signing bonus = $10.5M total value.
