It wasn't all that long ago that Horton was our DB coach, now he's being interviewed by St Louis for their head coaching position. May just be a formality of the Rooney rule, but in any case, Congrats to Ray for the added exposure.

He seems like he could be a good leader of guys, he seems like a high intensity Herm Edwards type of guy, that said...where is his success as coordinator????

He may not be a good position coach. Lake had/has so much talent and technique when he played that it makes sense he can coach up some so-so players. He also had the benefit of playing with a HOF corner/safety. They both did a lot of switching back and forth and IMHO, you have to be damn solid on the fundamentals, not just talent, to pull that off and be All-Pro at both positions.

To answer your question, he had NO SUCCESS as a defensive coordinator for the Cards and our defensive backs actually REGRESSED while he was here. Look at how well Gay has played this year and how the rookie, Cortez Allen, has performed when given the opportunity. Keenan Lewis has also picked it up a notch. Maybe the Rams should be interviewing Carnell Lake for their HC job. He's done an outstanding job with our defensive backfield.

Bingo! The Rooney Rule is a JOKE and I don't think it's needed any longer. All it does now is make the "token African-American" coming in for the interview feel as if they are nothing more than a mere formality. How many times have we seen black coaches come in for an interview and we all felt that the ONLY reason they are being interviewed is to get it over with to comply to the RR so they can get to those candidates that are really being considered. I hope that we are beyond any racist discrimination at this point in the NFL and other sports and are bringing in candidates because they are qualified and not because of the color of their skin. There are many qualified, black assistant coaches and coordinators in this league who deserve consideration without having to be the "token" interview just to satisfy the Rooney Rule. Some may say that the only reason Tomlin was hired was because of the Rooney Rule but I disagree, Tomlin was a highly thought of defensive coordinator in his own right and absolutely deserved consideration.
