Seems very odd for them to definitively rule him out for one game, considering that game is over a month away, but that's what they did here. He's definitely out for the season opener against Denver, but after that is unknown.

In other news, Jeremy Maclin tore his ACL and is done for the year. These are critical days, these first few practices. So many injuries happen.

So far we've avoided the big injury bug (after a whopping one day). I hope this is our year to stay healthy.

Update: He's had surgery and is now expected to miss the entire season.

Yeah, that definitive timetable is odd. Either way, that stings for the Ravens.

These things go in cycles, we've had our share of injuries, time for some other team to get the injury bug.

That sucks for them, but I don't think it's such a major blow. I thought he was pretty overrated, personally, and they have Dickson. It will hurt some, but not much. Not half as bad as we will hurt if Miller, or any one of our OL go down.

I've always hated Pitta, and he has made some big plays again the Steelers. This is a good development.Baltimore will now return just 1 player from last year's team who caught at least 50 passes.

Can players on the PUP list be cut before the season starts in order to save their cap hit?

No. Well, not really. Players who are injured during the course of football activities cannot be cut. They can be waived/injured, though. If no one claims them, then they can be placed on IR, or given an injury settlement which counts against the cap. A lot of players have a split contract, where their salary is "split" to a reduced salary if they are on placed on Injured Reserve.

    Ok thanks.
I saw that Pitta was in his final year with a $2mil cap hit (no dead money) for them & was wondering.

Eagles WR Jeremy Maclin is out for the season as well. Rough start for some teams already.

The Baltimore sun is reporting it was dislocated and fractured. I never want to see an injury of this kind. This kid could never be the same if he can even ever play again. What sucks even more is he was about to receive a pretty nice pay day.

Yeah, this is a pretty severe injury. A co-worker of mine was in a motorcycle accident and has a similar injury (although I'm sure it's more severe). He's still bed ridden over 3 months later and hasn't even started learning how to walk again. He's been told he'll never be able to ride a bike again as it will be too much force on his hip and pelvis.

Pitta could very well never be the same. I don't wish that on many people

I believe it was a hip injury that robbed football fans of one of the most electric players in NFL history, Bo Jackson. Guy was amazing, derailed by a hip injury.

If I remember correctly it was the same exact injury.
