If your talking about since he took the position, then your absolutely right. But as of late (last five years) uh..not that great. And that's all I'm talking about. He's got to do better if we are overcome and reach the super bowl.
And at some point, it is a "what have you done for me lately" situation.

I paid my electricity bill for my whole adult life; but if I don't pay that electricity bill this month, the lights are out. And they don't care about my perfect payment history beforehand.

That's what I'm saying about Colbert. He's lived off what he did prior to the last 5 years. But now we are close, so its time to not dick around and get that secondary fixed. I dont care what he did before 2010 now. Sorry..this a "produce now" business. Unless your Jeff Fisher of the Rams. LOL .

If Colbert has done such a bad job the last five years then how are we "so close"?

The great Ozzie Newsome has drafted safety Matt Elam in the first round a bust, Arthur Brown in the second round another bust. His best WR is 36 year old Steve Smith, and the Ravens lost Osemele, Upshaw, and Smith to free agency.

Again.....i never said he was doing " such a bad job" . Stop putting words in my mouth. But in the areas that he has short comings, he needs to fix those blind spots. Especially doing bandage maintenance on the secondary.

Right now we seem to be past bandages and in need of transplant surgery.

It's comments like these that Elvis is talking about that lead to spirited debates. If nothing else, Dean, you will keep things interesting during the offseason. :lolol:

    San Francisco: Montana to Young
    Green Bay: Favre to Rodgers
Cleveland: Kosar to ...... to Manziel
    Steelers Ben to ?
In the end, that will play a big part in defining Colbert.

Your right. And I'm happy about that; especially them losing Osemele. But again, just like I've been saying about Colbert, I'll say the same about Newsome....let's see what they do with the draft and the next wave of free agency after the draft before we start making judgements on their 2016 performances.

Let's say if Colbert messes up and we don't transition to a new, legit QB. There will still be Colbert defenders. I agree with you but the Colbert supporters will have excuses ready.

Your right. And I get that. But think about it this way (and this is the way I see it); If in the last five years, in every other area, Colbert did grade "B-" job. OKay...then in the area of the secondary, he's done an "F+" job (and that's what he's done..you can't make an argument about that to me) then what grade should he get as a GM overall in the last 5 years?

See? That's what I'm saying; If he didn't do such a piss poor job in that one area, he's overall grade would be higher. You can't do an "F" grade job in the secondary in the NFL; A passing league. You just can't. And be considered a great GM.

This is how I see it. Hope it clarifies things.

If Tunsil fails to # 6, you can bet the Ravens will be all over him. I've never seen a luckier franchise then the Ravens.

I think I'm confused because you (Dean) keep saying that your defending your article because you live in the present, the here, the now and then you go on to talk about Colbert's body of work over the last 5 years. Which is it...the here and now or the last 5 years? And if it is the last 5 years, why not go out on a limb and say the whole body of work. In which case, I would say Colbert has a top 5 rating over his career. You have a point of view (just like everyone else) and good for you! I think what is triggering the "heated" debate is the way your argument becomes Schizophrenic when you are defending it.

This is a good article. To my eyes, it looks like there are two surviving Day 1 corners in the CB column. It looks like the white blurred image there is about double the height of the others. My guess is that those two players were Rowe and Golson (both of whom had pre draft visits). The TE1 placard has been speculated to be Williams, but I would guess that it was Walford, who got drafted in the early 3rd. We had Walford in for a visit, and didn't even show interest in Williams. There were plenty of folks who rated Walford higher as a prospect than Williams last year. My guess is that the reported failed trade attempt with the Rams was for Rowe, and that when our 2nd round pick rolled around we took Golson over Walford. Just a guess, but I think it makes the most sense.

That doesn't make sense. A GM whose team just won a playoff game should be ranked higher than one who didn't.

The Steelers looked better after last year not worse after almost beating the SB champs in the playoffs and the regular season.

It is not Colbert's fault that Keenan Lewis badly wanted to play in New Orleans. Mike Mitchell and Boykin were both good pick ups.

Having to replace Polamalu and Taylor in the same year was too much for the secondary to bear but Colbert drafted those guys in the first place.

I do agree that too much emphasis is put on finding an edge rusher; but I also feel like cornerbacks are often primadonnas that are hard to keep. If the Steelers had been able to draft Revis instead of Timmons no way would Revis be on the team still at 16M per year.

Agree, that makes a ton of sense.

And would have loved to land Rowe, dang it.

My bad for your confusion. What I"m saying is the here and now is within the last 5 years. That's my "here & now". If you want to me to cut it down to the last two years, Colbert's body of work in the last two years over all is still a B- at best. But specifically grading his work in the secondary..an "F".

The key is, what you consider the "here & now". I use the last 5 years; you may only use 2 years. Either or, Colbert is a grade C at best GM.

Its like a black hole, no matter how hard I try not to respond to this stuff, I get sucked in!

Grade C is a joke, landing the best WR and RB in the game warrants a higher grade than that alone.

An F in the secondary is also wrong, Gay, Mitchell, Cockrell, all did well, as did McCain the year before, likewise Blake when used correctly. Wasnt until this year when they insisted trotting him out as a starter every week that he stunk it up.

I give him a C in the secondary and A- overall.

Blast, Terrible Towel, want you to know I love you both. You crack me up. But as we stack up the numerous, failure players in our secondary (shamarko will be the next cut) I can see you just want to keep making excuses for the worst secondary in the league. So lets just agree to disagree and move on. Allen..gone; Boykin..gone...Shamarko..bags packed. I could gone on, but what's the use. You gentleman have a great day as I exit this thread.

    O
oh god... Another one that has Bellichick #1

Where would he be as a GM if someone else took Brady at pick 198? Or if they hadn't found creative ways to use video cameras and inflation needles?
