I ordinarily don't quote Stephen A. Smith on anything. However, what he had to say about the Steelers and the way they have conducted themselves for years now was dead on. Basically, he said the Steelers used to be the quietly confident team that let other teams trash talk, be disrespectful, then would get their revenge where it mattered most, on the score board. He said now and for years, the Steelers are the team that trash talks, dances, and disrespects other teams without backing it up. In short, they are soft and have become one of the teams they used to love to destroy.

So, where does the fault lie? I'm not against giving college educated young men respect by rewarding them with freedom as long as they continually prove they are worthy of it. When they do things that disrupt the team concept by being lawless, disrespectful or simply ignorant, then it is the job of the head coach to address it immediately and hand out punishment enough to ensure that it never happens again. No, the head coach isn't suppose to be a parent or even a counselor. But, part of his job is to pull the team together and that can't be done allowing idiotic behavior by team leaders like Brown, Bell, Pouncey, JuJu, Bryant, Mike Mitchell or even Ben with his problems to continue until those issues become such a distraction that they ultimately hurt the teams' overall performance. The uneven discipline this team has falls squarely on Mike Tomlin's shoulders, period.

Having said that, I don't think it warrants his firing, but I wouldn't bat an eye if it did. It's a source of pride that the Steelers have only had three head coaches in 50 plus years. Well, the league is changing. You either change with the times or get run over. This team is supposed to be one of the top, shining examples of how an NFL organization is to be operated. Right now, they are somewhat embarrassing both on and at times off the field. If they are not going to replace Tomlin and I don't believe for a minute they will, then it needs to be made perfectly clear to him that "the standard that is the standard" sucks ass. His throne needs to be uncomfortably hot.

I think Tomlin was a good leader of men. Last night proved to me once and for all that the team is no longer responding to him. The problems last night went way beyond Ben and other injuries, and affected both sides of the ball. I find JuJu’s comments about nameless gray faces troubling for 2 key reasons. First, it shows a repeat of arrogance that we’ve seen many times (Tomlin and others before Jacksonville playoff game, Tuitt comments before Ravens game, etc.). Second, I hate the concept of “nameless gray faces.” Other teams have strengths, weaknesses and tendencies that need to be planned for, and that attitude is again one of arrogance. “We do what we do, and if we do it well enough it doesn’t matter what the other team does.” Or “we’re good enough to play checkers while the other guys play chess.”

No more. If you look out there, an increasing number of the more successful coaches out there are coaches with keen football minds and an awareness of how to plan for their opponents. We need that. We don’t seem to prepare at all.

I respect what Tomlin has accomplished, but it’s not working anymore. He needs to move on.

I’m officially on the wagon lol as long as Ben/tomlin are here we will never win another ring.

randy/butler need to go as well. We need a 2-3 bad season stretch and free up money and get a qb. Hopefully we have some semblance of a defense and legitimately win some playoff games.

I knew after the 2016 season playoff loss to the Patriots... the window had shut for Tomlin and Roethlisberger. The following season was a joke... yeah, Steelers went 13-3, but against backup QBs. The 17 team was a fraud and the loss to JAX proved this. The defense can be salvaged in one or two seasons. Offense is gonna take some high draft picks to get back to playoff caliber. Steelers need RBs, TEs, OTs, OGs, Center and QB. Only position that is solid is WR. The offense will take several seasons to repair.

Can get some free agents as well in between those draft picks. Hell, with a line, RB and mason this team could win some playoff games. I said it

Sooner or later you need to be held accountable for an abysmal playoff record. He didn’t throw the interceptions but his deciding to play Spillane who clearly didn’t look ready, is all on him. Also sitting Dotson was a terrible call.

They’ve been eating the same cereal for 14 years, time for a new brand. If for no other reason to get a new flavor.

They could use a new voice leading them in that locker room.

Totally agree about Spillane and Dotson. In a year where we had little consistency in the lineup ... we should have let Avery and Dotson continue.

Feiler had 2 ugly penalties early in the game. bad...

A good, blue-chip RB would do wonders for Rudolph or whoever is QB in the future. But... Steelers need an O-line that can do both run blocking and pass blocking. This won't be a quick fix.

what does Tomlin have to do for you to say he needs to go. Your list looks like a decent start but not all inclusive.

I'll say it. He needs to go. I was ready for him to be gone after the 17' debacle. I was ready for him to be gone after the 18' debacle.

The fact is I thought he did a good job with the 19' team, and he did have the Steelers at 11-0 before everything crumbled. He isn't going anywhere. They are not going to fire him.

I thought Tomlin did a great job at the beginning of the year of guiding this team through some really tough circumstances. I say I support him going into next season based solely on that fact.
