during the game one of the announcers pointed out many times that if the Raiders' right tackle had his right leg back it was a pass and if his legs were together it was a run play. it seemed to be accurate every time.

did the Steelers know this information? it seems that would be such an advantage to know if run/pass on every single play the Raiders had.

I can't believe it has come to this...I can't even argue with you anymore Heinz. This has turned into a s**t show that I can't even defend, and I am the guy that has my black and gold colored glasses surgically attached.

OK, I'm going to inject some optimism here. Steelers are better off salary cap wise.. than they ever have since Free Agency started, IIRC. A couple of good quality players on D and good coaching acquisitions, Steelers can be a force again in 2019. However, I don't have any confidence in the 2018 Steelers.

Steelers have a good core group of players to work with. We need a game-changer on defense (to help out the offense when they get inconsistent)....like Polamalu and Harrison. This is what the Steelers are sorely lacking.

They are the worst team in the league in evaluating talent, in the draft and in free agency, our record in selecting talented players speaks for it's self......

free agency is not the steelers way. they bring in bargain basement free agents every year and sometimes do ok with that. So you got Bostic this year that runs around like he is clueless and Burnett that is just hot garbage. We need some O linemen very soon. So look for the steelers to be in the five and dime store for free agents

I don't know... Browns were pretty bad at evaluating talent until a couple of years ago. Even the mighty Patriots and our arch rivals... the Ravens have had some major clunkers in the draft, in the early rounds!

I think Free Agency changes this year for the Steelers. With their salary cap numbers they can be big players and spenders... unlike previous years. Also, Steelers could cut some dead weight and have even more money to spend. The draft is for the future, but experienced Free Agents can make a difference right off the bat.

I guess I'm not as shocked as most people about the current situation. I saw it coming and several people mocked my negativity. Steelers tend to rebound after a sub-par season... and maybe this is exactly what the Steelers need. Sit out a year of playoffs... and reboot.

The problem is we have a lot of cap space for US. There are quite a few other teams with tons of cap space. Where do you think the best FAs are gonna go.....that's right. Money talks....

Overall draft picks they’re not but something is definitely wrong with their evaluation of defensive backs!

This is one of the worst evaluations of the Steelers I've ever read. How in the world did the Steelers win games if they are the worst team in the league in evaluation talent?

It's like people lose all common sense when the Steelers lose. People's brains get fried and scrambled like eggs.

Tomlin's defensive draft picks have been sub par. The following are players that they have actually gotten average to above average service from:

    2007:
1st rd., Lawrence Timmons (LB) 2nd rd., LeMarr Woodley (DE) 5th rd., William Gay (DB)

    2008
6th rd., 2nd pick, Ryan Mundy (DB)

    2009
1st rd., Evander Hood (DE) 3rd rd., 2nd pick, Keenan Lewis (DB)

    2010
2nd rd., Jason Worilds (DE) 5th rd., 2nd pick, Crezdon Butler (DB)

    2011
1st rd., Cameron Hayward (DE) 3rd rd., Curtis Brown (DB) 4th rd., Cortez Allen (DB) 5th rd., Chris Carter (LB)

    2012
    2nd rd., Sean Spence (LB)

    2013
1st rd., Jarvis Jones (LB) 4th rd., 1st pick, Shamarko Thomas (DB)

    2014
1st rd., Ryan Shazier (LB) 2nd rd., Stephon Tuitt (DE) 6th rd., 2nd pick, Daniel McCullers (DT)

    2015
1st rd., Bud DuPree (OLB) 6th rd., 1st pick, Leterrius Walton (DT) 6th rd., 2nd pick, Anthony Chickillo (DE)

    2016
1se rd., Artie Burns (CB) 2nd rd., Sean Davis (CB) 3rd., Javon Hargrave (DT) 2nd rd., 2nd pick, Tyler Matakevich (OLB)

    2017
1st rd., T.J. Watt (OLB) 3rd. rd., 1st pick, Cameron Sutton (CB)

    2018
    1st rd., Terrell Edmunds (S)

From 2016 back to Tomlin's first draft year, I only listed players that at a minimum dressed for at least 20 games.

I don't know about you, but a couple of above average, not necessarily Pro-Bowl caliber defensive players in 2012 and 2013 could be the veteran leaders on defense this team seems to lack right now. They whiffed both years. Secondary drafting has been down right awful.

And not only that, they have idiots making coaching decisions too. Terrible talent evaluation, poor game planning and horrible situational coaching. Yet, not a single losing season in 15 years. Only luck could explain that, but then again thevSteelers are also downright unlucky.

I would say they need 2 game changers on defense, one at LB and one in the secondary.

I saw on ESPN today the cap is going up 10 million next year, they need to find some upgrades on defense.

I get a kick out of how so many people have no clue about what they are talking about on this board.

Kevin Colbert is actually regarded as one of the top GMs in the game. a 7-5-1 year being a down year should be pointing out the obvious.

Yes not every 1st round pick will develop into an all pro player. That is just the reality of the NFL draft.

For every Artie Burns, there is a TJ Watt. Colbert's actually ahead of the game, and I've pointed this out on previous threads for anyone that cares to look up and see the facts.
