Resigning Grad was a mistake, for sure. I can't work out where the myth that he is a 'solid backup' came from.

It will be interesting to look at the coaches film and see what he's looking at downfield. I got the sense last night his progressions are too slow, but its not clear how much his receivers are giving him. So would be useful to know.

Worth remembering how much our offense is carried by the legendary 'extending the play' and Ben working with receivers breaking off routes etc. He can do that because he's Ben, obviously. But the back ups also need to develop some improvisation skills.

There was one sack in the game that Vaughn took, where he managed to evade it for a moment or two. There was a receiver (think it was the RB) in the vicinity who, had he been alert to it, might have caught a shovel pass as Vaughn was being brought down. But he had his back turned. I guess what I'm saying is that the 2nd and 3rd string seem more concerned about running their own routes, and not paying attention to what's happening around them; and that isn't how the first team gets things done.

He played quite well with all he was handed. Both QB's had 4's. Jones: 4 picks. Vaughan 4 sacks. No picks for Vaughan.

Time go give this kid a shot with some respectable players and not camp fodder. But lets keep the Landry Jones dream alive right?! :lolol:

Now that is stupid. How is DHB going to get thru an entire game playing both QB and CB?

he had some nice long drives. i agree that most of those picks were not his fault. DHB should have made that first catch too. it went right through his hands. tough yes but he has to make those. hamilton got mugged on that pick in the EZ and it was a bad bounce off of a helmet, so yea thats LJ's fault. an unblocked rusher hitting his arm at the last second was his fault too. not. coates need alot of refinement as a receiver still. yes the eagles have some good vet db's. besides that, LJ will have a much better cast around him if ben goes down and if those same db's play our receivers like they did last night we will have more than enough capable weapons around the field to burn them in other ways. not worried one bit by this game. he showed enough to be a game manager and drive the field with this group of mismatched backups, thank goodness they won't be the same guys playing if he has to take over for a game or two.

I'm glad the game was blacked out on my NFL Network channel. I recorded a re-run... but it's probably best that I delete it.

Game was blacked out for me too in Ohio, but on first look at the replay:
Pick 1 was behind Coates.... but Coates made no notable effort to touch that ball. Blame: Jones
Pick 2 in end zone off a bounce? Blame: Not Jones
Pick 3 I thought Coates ran a poor route, he allowed the defender to block him off his route for the pick. Blame: Coates
Pick 4 OL pocket collapsed and LJ arm hit during throw. Blame: OL

Some of those could be argued as to whether or not LJ should have thrown the ball or not, but I think RIP LJ is a bit premature based on my view of the picks. Also, I couldn't watch the game, but the couple clips I've seen of Coates this season.... he needs to get a bit more aggressive and go after some of these close balls.... looks like nancy hands at times

The only problem is, the starters dont play with backup QBs in pre season, besides Vaughn was on the 53 roster in dallas and played with starters and he still was cut....

i'm not to sure that coates on the pick in the EZ wasn't shielding the safety from view of LJ. i'm not even sure he could see him from his perspective.

I got no love for Vaughn either. We need a backup who has played well somewhere. NOT VICK. He is a lefty. not smart to have a left backup when your starter is a righty
Vick is also done and has been since he started in Philly

I been a LOLandry hater since I first saw him in a Steeler uniform. Last year he fooled me or someone else wore his uni against the Cards. I will never be fooled by him again

I know everyone praises him for the game winning TD against the cards but that play was all about Bryant, but what about how he almost cost us a playoff game against the bengals. The guy sux. there has to be a better option.

Ben missed 4 games last year, still made the playoffs. And that was with Vick playing 2 games!

The problem isn't Landry, the problem is the fans perception of how good a backup should be. The backups you guys want, don't exist or are starters.

Landry Jones once again moves on from training camp yet raises the same negativity (controversy) on the field once again. Is it vision, reads, no Improvising due to lack of patience or talent ? How long will the insanity continue with his fundamentalism vanilla at best....

Some people want it to happen, some wish it would happen, others make it happen. What's it going to be Mr. Jones.

To be a QB in this league they have to have a short memory when it comes to picks, ive seen Ben throw 4 picks in a game before and come back the following week throwing multiple TDs, Ben has probably told landry to forget about it and make up for it in these last two games, the Oline and receiver play in these games hasn't been anything to rave about, having a great game in pre season without a supporting team surrounding you is a handicap for any QB, so in the final cut the coaches will evaluate him and keep him or let him go, there will be several QBs available on the waiver wire on the first sept 1 cut and on the final sept 5 cut for them to sign if they cut landry and even if they dont cut him they can cut vaughn and bring a QB in from the waiver wire, it's up to LJ to play better if he wants to stay here...
