I know some people who love Nebraska football and follow it religiously. he has had a lot of problems while there. kinda like down here at Tennessee, they are real good at covering them up

Refresh my memory, did Adams get in trouble right before the combine or was it just a sketchy past in general? I don't recall.

I think if you can't leave the stuff alone when you know you are going to be tested, it is to big a risk to draft them. Gordon and Holmes come to mind.

Same as Gregory. He failed a combine drug test for pot. I disagree that it is too big a risk to draft them, but it is definitely something to think about.

If you can't stay clean when you know you are going to be tested, thats a HUGE problem. I wouldn't touch him with a 10 foot pole, not in the first, no way, he's not all that great anyway but apparently, the Steelers are going to do their due diligence according to the tweet TTF just posted.

Just like Adams, the 2nd may be a point where the potential upside is worth the risk. I don't think I would go there in the 1st.

:lolol: Highly doubt it. Weed makes you all chill and mellow. Opposite of the state needed to play football.

If you take people off your draft board that smoke pot, you'll effectively eliminate 2/3's of the draft. Sure, not everyone fails a drug test, but it seems like almost anyone could fail one at some point. How many times did Le'Veon fail in college? None. And I highly doubt it was the first time he light it up when he was with Blount haha

Im guessing we're just trying to get a feel for the kid, and looking to see if he is the type of guy who will own up to it and do better, or act like it's not a problem. If he's there at 22, I'd be pretty disappointed if we didn't even consider him.

Most, if not all, big schools with big time programs are like this. They do everything in their power to keep the studs on the field... Which happens to be part of the reason why these kids are dumb enough to fail these things in the first place. They've gone their entire athletic career being the dude, and never once had to suffer the consequences for their actions. People are always making it right for them and covering it up. They feel like the rules don't apply to them. It is very likely that this is the first time he has ever paid a price like this for a mistake.

It it all boils down to what to what type of kid he is. If he acts like a victim and complains, or if he shrugs it off as no big deal... Then stay far away from him. If he uses it as a wake up call and realizes that he needs to cut the crap if he wants to be a good NFL player, then it's a blessing in disguise. If it's the latter, then I'd be comfortable drafting the kid... If it's the former, then take him off the board completely.

SG, the problem with what you've said is that the same type of people who have helped cover up his transgressions in the past, will also coach him really well on how to tell teams what they want to hear. So he will be saying all of the right things about it being a Wakeup call, and time to grow up, etc.

You're not catching my point. He couldn't lay off the stuff when he knew he was going to be tested. I'm not saying not to draft guys who smoke pot, I'm saying dont draft guys who are so hooked on weed they cant lay off it at the most important time of their lives.

True, but I kinda hope we are pretty good at weeding out the BS. I'm sure they are prepared for the coached up lines, at least I would be. They have to be expecting that. There's a lot more to figuring out what type of kid he is that by talking to him about his recent test.

I get your point, I guess I just didn't lay out my dissention in the way I wanted to get my point across... So many kids smoke pot that I find the timing of the test failure to be completely irrelevant. There are plenty of kids that never failed in college or at the combine who have issues in the league with pot. There are also guys like Adams and Tyrann Mathieu who had issues either in college or at the combine, and you have never heard their name associated with pot in the league. It's a total crapshoot. I went in a little more detail in my post directed at steel1031 as to why I think these kids fail tests when normal rational logic would suggest that nobody should fail.

I can guarantee that you aren't the only one that wants him off our drafts board, or at least only on it if he takes a huge slide in the draft (which won't happen idt). I'm just not one of those people.

We'll have to agree to disagree. IMO, you are either stupid or hooked if you don't lay off with a test looming. Unless he lives in a dark cave sheltered from the world, he knows full well what will happen to his draft stock, there are examples every year. You're right in that it is possible he may never have a single incident in the NFL with pot but I'm not risking a 1st rd pick to find out, he's not that good.
