Just wanted to say thanks for posting the link to "forgotten badasses, Greg Llloyd", on the "home"page of this site...

Always been one of my faves, and probably why I like Silverback so much, is he reminds me of Greg...

One thing I noticed, watching the old video clips, is how he makes devastating tackles,
but almost always led with his shoulder, not this head, while making those tackles...
Even if he left his feet(rarely), his "fundamentals" were sound...

He planted the shoulder, and/or wrapped up, with his arms...

Long before the "new rules", legislating "helmet to helmet" hits were put in place...

His "highlight hits", were mostly textbook tackles, delivered with a ton of impact, but done with proper form...

    Shoulder first, not head first...

Still got the message across, that "you do NOT wanna be the guy I crush..."...

The dude was one of kind, and I`m sure his martial arts training had a hand in that...

He was a black belt level student of karate, or one of the similar disciplines...

And, kinda like Mean Joe, he wouldn`t tolerate his teammates giving anything less than their best...

He played like a "Steeler" should, and wouldn`t accept any less from his teammates..

Thanks for reminding me how awesome he was, Towel!:thumbs up::cool::herewego!:

He was aw-ight. I think they could have got more out of someone like me but since I wasn't available (do to lack of skills and talent) they made the next best choice in him!

Yeah I know the feeling. They contacted my agent but we just couldn't agree on a price. I just couldn't pay them enough to hire me.

I'm not much into wearing gear, but 95 is the only jersey I ever bought and still break it out during the post season...

I'm impressed that you had an agent and were able to speak to them. When I offered my services I met with a lawyer but it was to discuss some kind of restraining order. I don't know what that was all about but anyhow...

my favorite Lloyd quote came from a profile in the NY Times, and went something like this:

"When I was a kid playing Pop Warner football, all the others had parents who would show up and root for their little Johnny. And I said to myself then, I'm going to kill your little Johnny".

This was the link that youtube suggested, after I watched" forgotten badasses"...

Not sure why that didn`t come up as a link, but,
It was an interview, after Greg got selected as toughest player in the league, or sumthin like that.. it`s pretty funny, and cool...
If anyone can post a better link...
If not, "paste it in your browser"...
I`m too old to figure that stuff out...

He makes some interesting comments, for a player of the 90`s, when free-agency was in effect...

I get the feeling he was one of the last rich players, that didn`t go to parties, with players from other teams...

He seemed to be team-first, not money first...Last one I can think of, honestly, other than Ward...

Ok, I`ll give ya Peazy...(Maybe BBen, although he` crazy rich, and not hurtin` for cash)...

Point I`m trying to make(poorly), is...

All these young kids comin into the league today, are true "professionals"...
Complete with the agents they have to have, to negotiate this "business"(I`m sorry.. I thought it was a GAME!?!?!)

You could almost substitute the word "mercenary"...

"Give me cash, you got my loyalty... I will kick the opposing teams` asses, until you trade me, then I will make it my business to kick yours`,,, Nuthin personal, right?!? it`s all bizness...

I just miss the days, before the millionaires get on their boats, after the games, and party with people from both teams...

I get sportsmanship, respect, and all that...

But I highly doubt you would have seen Greg Lloyd partying with anyone in our division, and probably not within the league!!

    Rant Over...:cool::herewego:
