Question for the old-timers in here: Who wins a 7-game series between the 1960 Bucs & the 1971 Bucs?

Having been around both I’m going with 1971 they had better pitching with some very big guys throwing the ball and they had power hitting “lumber and lightning”

While I fell in love with 60 team for multiple reasons but I'd say the 71 team was the better of the two. The BUCS were a great team in 1960. Over 90 wins but that WS has to be one of the strangest of all time.

I have family members who golfed with Elroy Face and Billy Maz and they have talked about it but mostly they talk about the $$$$ they would have made.

Come on JEH, don't tell me you've already forgotten the 1909 series (Pirates beat Detroit 4-3) that featured 2 immortals - Honus Wagner and Ty Cobb. You even told me you built that Heath Kit crystal radio from scratch so you could listen to the games in your thatched hut. :lolol:

The fact that the Pirates have won 5 of the 7 World Series' that they've played in (1903, 1909, 1925, 1927, 1960, 1971, 1979) with each series going the full 7 games, none of them were "gimmes". Between the '60 and '79 teams though I'd also have to go with the '79 team. The 60's team was such a team of fate that it was indescribable. The Yanks were a great team but so full of themselves (winning 3 absolute laughers) that the Pirates were definitely the tortoise to the Yanks hare. Let's also not forget the 1971 team that beat the very very good Baltimore Orioles featuring 4-20 game win pitchers, McNally, Cuellar, Dobson and Palmer and featured 2 of the best ever - Roberto and Frank Robinson. While currently a dismal franchise, at least the Pirates have won 3 WS since Cleveland won their last in 1949! :thumbs up:

I think my Dad would have remembered that series as a youngster. But I do remember taking the South Hills Street Car (and transfer) on out to Forbes Field for several weekday day games. A friend of my Sister's was niece of the Super Usher Phil Coyne who worked as the 3rd base usher at all 3 Pirate parks for nearly 80 years! He finally retired about 5 years ago and passed away at 99 yrs old (I believe) a few years later. He would meet us at the gate from the left field bleachers at the 3rd inning and seat us usually in the 1st row along 3rd base. A Pittsburgh and Pirate legend and great man. :applaud:

Thanks for making me feel young. Born exactly in the middle of those years.
