When coordinators are allowed to radio with QB or the defensive captain, do they typically also give reminders like "Russ, we are in field goal range - don't take a sack - throw it away." or "be sure someone covers the tight end!"

Or do they just call in the play or scheme? Sure seems like some reminders would be a good idea.

I don’t see why they couldn’t, other than a) time before the channel shuts off each play and b) confusing the QB in loud noise situations.

Great question. Looking forward to a reply if someone actually knows.

most probably do but the steelers have MT chime in with a cliche instead. " Do what we do" - " The standard is the standard" - " Don't live in your fears" - "unleash hel l"

    Obviously.

I also heard Mike sings into the radio often

"Wanna be starting something, gotta be starting something."

Which can be motivational but it's reported he sings these lyrics from the Michael Jackson song instead.

    You're a vegetable (you're a vegetable)
    You're a vegetable (you're a vegetable)
Still, they hate you (still, they hate you)
    You're a vegetable (you're a vegetable)
    You're just a buffet (you're just a buffet)
    You're a vegetable (you're a vegetable)
They eat off of you (they eat off of you)
    You're a vegetable, ow!
    Ow!
    Yee-haw! (Ooh!)

Honestly Mike knew the lyrics better than I'm sure most people.
    Impressive.

Any QB that needs to be made aware of the game situation isn't worth the position he is playing. Need smart football players.

It's kinda like what Payton Wilson said about the miscommunications on defense; more often than not, you just have to know what you are supposed to do on a given call. Dumb football players wreck games.

But if you have dumb football players, reminders of what to do would be useful. Remember, half of the population has a below average IQ.

Can't say exactly for Russ and company.
You do have a limited time.
But usually there is a small amount of room.

In some circumstances, like 3rd and 4 and against the clock...
They'll call in the play and add the 2nd play should they not make it.
In that case, there is little time for discussions.

It is mostly between QB and play-caller.
The better the QB knows the playbook, the quicker the exchange/counter exchange.
Yet I know some talk about the clock or watch the Safety, misc stuff....

I seriously doubt they have time to do little "helpful hints". The verbiage for a play isn't short, plus sometimes they are probably also calling in 2 plays at once if they are going hurry up. It may depend a little on the player. Some guys probably want more info and some less to keep their mind uncluttered.
