I visited the Steelers .com website today to read some of the post game comments from the players and it kills me to read that they the "players" recognize that every year we come out the blocks slowwwww... "are you kidding me" then we pick up the momentum "no sh-- " this is what we have had to hear the last 3 years. So has this become the standard of the Steelers that very year we come out slow and lathargic but don't fear we will pick up the pace once we get kicked around by inferior teams and hope to god we can atleast get a wild card slot or wait to see you missout out so we can back into the playoffs "unbelievable". It is said that a team takes on the demeanor and attitude of the Coach and buys into his system will this can be said for the Steelers under Coach T'S leadership because the players are echoing his words verbatim

    1. “We’ve got to chew on that,” said Keisel. “We’ve got to chew on it for two weeks. We’ve got to get better in a lot of areas on defense. I’ve got to get better. We’ll do that.” "The echos from Coach T"

    2. “We’ve got an opportunity to go into this bye week, have everybody rest up a bit, and come out and get ready to play some more football,” said Woodley "RESTUP" for christ sakes its just the 3rd game of the season and were already talking about rest!!!!!!

    3. “I know when our offense goes out there and puts that many points on the board they’re giving us an opportunity to win the game,” said Woodley. “It’s our responsibility on the defense to go out there and shut teams down, and we didn’t do that.” "Really you knew this, but you knew this last year aswell" and you plaed like crap.

One of my major concerns is the personality of this team. I think our defense is clearly lacking in the leadership department and, dare I say, I think some of our players are a bit soft. Anybody else follow guys like James Harrison and Lamarr Woodley on Facebook? These guys are on that thing 24/7. I can't imagine Lambert or Ham or Mean Joe posting on something like Facebook. "Ready for the big game on Sunday? Let's do this. LOL!" "I'm at the movies. What y'all think I should see?"

I can't picture Greg Lloyd, Kevin Greene, or Rod Woodson posting on Facebook.

You see Ray Lewis's Facebook page? I just glanced at it. Nothing but information on his charities, the companies he endorses, and ticket and autograph giveaways. No idle chatter about movies and funny things he found on the internet. Ed Reed posts nothing (it's just fans posting stuff about him).

We need a J-Peezy type on this team. We need a vocal spirit on this defense that raises the play of others around him. I don't see that on this team. Some suggest Ryan Clark is our leader? No way. He's our union rep. That's about the extent of that. Anybody who actually goes to the games, Latrobe, etc, can see that Clark doesn't really have that impact on the rest of our D.

I'm concerned about this unit. If we can't get off of the field against Carson Palmer, it's going to be a looooooong year.

Our D doesn't seem like a unit, it seems like a collection of guys doing their own things. Ike does his thing, Harrison and Woodley do theirs, and Troy, obviously, is always left to his own devices. But it doesn't seem in sync. And, again, there just doesn't seem to be any real leadership. Troy isn't a leader. He's not. Harrison isn't. I don't even know if his teammates even talk to him. He's like Lloyd. Just plain insane and everyone knows it. Woodley is kind of a big kid. I've met him in person and he's a little childish (and if you follow him on Facebook, it's very clear he's still closer to 20 than 30).

I'm not feeling the personality of the D on this unit. And, yes, we can finally say that it's getting older.

Here, Here i second that. Two emotional leaders just Retired from both side of the ball Ward and Farrior so who's going to step up and challenge this team week to week?? Their professionals i know no one should pump up individual players that should come from within themselfs from years of playing the game, but who's gonna rally the troops??? I don't see any one individual out their trying to pump these guys up as a team the way you see guys like ray lewis does for the Ravens defense you gotta have that emotional leader in any team sport. Ok we have a few key defensive players out what team doesn't next man has to step up point blank the show goes on.

Woodley played like crap last year? He was tearing it up before he got hurt. Woodley is a streaky player, he'll have ten sacks before you know it. He also has a history of turning it up a notch in the playoffs.

They keep playing like they are now we won't have to worry about that.

I get tired of Woodley posting on FB after a loss saying they have to improve, get better, play harder, etc....Just FREAKING do it already! I agree with your assessment of a leader of our D. Really the only player I ever see getting pissed off is Hampton but he definitely is not the defensive leader.

I take the point about attitude, but I do think some of you take the relationship between football and social media a bit too far. I don't see the connection between what happens on facebook and what happens on the field at all, other than players senses of their own celebrity, perhaps.

But it's just a bit silly to say the 70's players wouldn't have used facebook. The idea of social media simply wasn't part of a professional sportman's life then (though I could perhaps imagine someone like Bradshaw using it... would at least be proof he could spell...). Judging the 'toughness' of a player because they happen to use a particular piece of technology in their spare time doesn't make sense.

And I highly Ray Lewis runs his own facebook account, to be honest.

Everything else you say, though - I kind of agree.

Yeah, Coach Tomlin is terrible. He only led the Steelers to two Superbowls. Even then, he only managed to win one of them. And he had the absolute audacity to miss the playoffs one year.

    Fire the bum.

I follow woodley, troy, brett, harrison and more. Some run their own, while others have some-one else( wife) run it. I don't care what they post or when as long as it isn't profane or during gameday.

As far as lacking that "leader"...... feelthe steel has seemed to hit the nail on the head, I truly miss Farrior, even though he may have lost a step I still feel he's better than foote AND was our leader. Loosing him was as bad as loosing either Troy or James ( go ahead and hammer me for that statement) and with all three gone we have what we now have. Timmons, please, in a time like this we NEED someone to step-up and be the man which should be Timmons in his second contract yet his development and/or improved skillset seems to be like spinning wheels, lots of smoke & noise but in reality going nowhere.
