If we only had a player who could set the edge and excels at stopping the run? hmmm....

We are missing a shut down, run stopping NT. Hargrave not the answer to small and has no bull rush!!

He would have not made much of a difference.

Jacksonville took away the strength of Heyward and Watt. They proceeded to attack both Tuitt (a common theme all season) and Dupree.

Even with Harrison, Tuitt is still the weakest link.

It does not help if Tuitt and Dupree cannot control the point of attack; Hargrave being consistently and successfully double teamed all game.

It’s our Linebackers. Without Shazier we were lost. Williams is a decent player but the rest of our LB’s are trash. I said it since the offseason... ILB was our thinnest position depth wise. We had two capable ILB on the whole roster. With Shazier our we only had one. I’d expect an ILB on draft day in the first round. Probably gonna trade up to get one too

Tuitt has been pretty much invisible ever since week 1.

The loss of Timmons though. Read my thread about my thoughts on that.

Hargrave missed most of the game. 96 I think it's Walton played in his place and was getting blown out. All the middle linebackers we used were getting blown backwards. Dupree was not setting the edge. Mitchell just forget about him. Hence their runs getting 5 yard runs at will.

I'm not sure Williams is decent maybe just average or below average at best. The Steeler's have had many better middle linbackers in the past.

You know... in all honesty. I'm not sure they want a Casey Hampton on this team any more.

They want to stop the run on the way to the QB, much like the Dungy Colts defense.

And you know what... those Colt defenses were TERRIBLE. They were often TERRIBLE against the run.

Butler isn't concerned with stopping the run or rushing our OLB's, and our defense is now SOFT.

I focused on Spence for a while. I started thinking he was playing poorly. On 4 consecutive plays the Jags went straight at Spence. 2 passes a run and 1 pass. He was responsible the area of the play each time. They gained over 30 yards. They went after him deliberately. He is horrible.

Well yeah. Unfortunately we had to play someone who we signed off the street to start at ILB. Fort isn’t any good either and Matakevich is even worse. We need a draft pick and probably a FA back up acquisition at the position to be in a halfway decent spot.

I asked in the offseason when Poe was available for the same price they were courting Hightower at it would have been a good idea. Many though it wasn't need because Hargrave was up and coming. I don't think we knew he'd hit a sophmore slump. Poe would have solved a lot of problems.

Why didn't they play Alalu more snaps? None of the other DL were effective.

He is too weak to play the position they played him in.
He gets pushed around like a little schoolgirl.
I've watched Steeler football for well over 65 years and the last couple of years
have been pitiful watching a team that, no matter what in the past, played hard
and tough, and doesn't play that way any longer, They play soft, I'm glad I only
have to witness this crap for at most another year. I hope they fix it but I don't think the Steelers can win another Super Bowl for quite a few years, long after Ben is gone.
