A guy I gotta watch more of. I know Mayock and Daniel Jeremiah were really high on him because of his baseball background. Potential single high FS.

    I would say solid athlete.

He is good but a step below Justin Reid in every area athletically. Realistically though, if Sean Davis moves to being a Free Safety, then someone like Terrell Edmunds far exceeds even him.

Yup. Bates has some serious ball tracking ability. Dare I say he may just have the best ball tracking of any safety in the class. My issues with him is he is not the athlete nor versatile as Justin Reid is.

Going to have to disagree with you there ASQ. As a 2 sport athlete (played B-ball too) and the way he moves on the field and his combine scores, Im going with very athletic. Thats not to say hes a better athlete then Reid, just better than solid, IMO.

Basketball, no? Or played 3 sports?

He's very young. Probably only two years of tape on him. In the article he was saying that was why he wasn't looked at real hard by most until the combine. Maybe some tape of other players from wake would have him in there.

Considering that neither Tomlin nor Colbert were at Stanford's Pro Day but arrived in full force at the Wake Forest Pro Day earlier in the month, I think it is safe to say I need to update my list barring any unforeseen change.

Looks like the Steelers have a greater degree of interest in Jessie Bates III than I thought.

I love Justin Reid the player. Love him. Production. Athleticism. Great tape.

But whether it's fair or not fair, don't discount the fact that Eric Reid is his brother, and all that may come with that.

I feel bad for Justin but theres' no doubt all 32 teams questioned him about it.

Yeah I am with you I was on the Reid for our first pick bandwagon and really have not seen anything on Bates. I know a few on here are very high on him so I guess it is time to take a look at him.

Interesting you say that SteelCity. I was wondering the same aspect after that news broke out. Granted, he does have his Pre-Drafr visit but that is still not too well a telling sign he is going to be picked by us.

They brought Tomlin, Colbert and Bradley to his Pro Day. Without question he has to be in Round One consideration as a contingency plan if Evans is not there.

As much I like Bates and some of these Safety options at #28, I can't help but think with the signing of Burnett, that Safety won't happen in Round 1.

I think everything is open. They could truly go BPA this time.

Can never have too much talent in the back end though, IMO. Id be very happy with Bates in the first.

    Concur with Blast.

I leave nothing now to chance. Generally speaking, when the Steelers send th proverbial house of Tomlin, Colbert and the position coach, the interest has to be there.
