You are right about being loyal to a fault being a pro and a con. While many players stated how tough Chuck Noll was a coach, he definitely held on to a few players past their prime after SB XIII. I think that was his downfall of when some fans started saying it was time for a change. I don't think Tomlin is holding players past their prime with the exception of Roethlisberger, but Polamalu may be an example of letting a great player go. I think Troy could have still played a few more years and we definitely could have used his help. IMO it was just a matter of adjusting his game and not asking him to freelance as much as he did in his prime. I'm sure there are other examples as well. One more may be letting James Harrison go out like he did. I get it that we had a young TJ Watt that deserved to be on the field, but James should never have been made inactive for as many games as he did.

I was on the Ben R + Dick L and HOF Defense made Tomlin, for many many years. Should have been CANNED after the Jacksonville defeat, 2017 playoffs.

Yep. Most of the D was already in place when Tomlin took over in 2007. In Tomlin's defense... he did add 2 good players in Timmons and Woodley. Worilds ended up good, too... but quit after his rookie contract.

Yes - the 2 LB's were his ..... but that was about it.....

loved Worilds, but really, he was only 'great' for 1-2 seasons.

he has way underachieved as far as I am concerned.

he and Colbert were drafting disasters after about 2012.........which is all part of the pain we are feeling today

I had to search to find a post to add this to

For starters I still find the signing of Vick revolting

But to the point I’m watching Tony Dungy and googled him

Turns out when Vick was in prison Dungy who is very religious was a mentor to Vick and worked to find him a job in the NFL

Tomlin and Dungy are good friends

I wonder if that was the influence that got Vick here
