What system? The long snapper snaps. The punter punts. All punters and kickers are basically auditioning for all teams at all times. Not like they are running routs or executing blocking assignments. They already know Harvin ain’t good. I have not heard the prognosis for the punter, but there is a need they could make a few phone calls, bring in five punters, and have a competition.
Nobody brought up the CFL. Punting is much more important in that league and I would bet there are some strong legs available. Don’t know if the difference in the ball would throw them off.

I was very glad he was cut. Worst punter in the nfl by a big margin last year.

That said, he was looking close to perfect in preseason with the 49ers ....at least during the games I watched.

It is strange that the NFL doesn't bring in punters from the CFL, does anyone know why not? That never made any sense to me. If a guy is a good punter in the CFL, he should be able to do it in the NFL too

There has to be someone better. I refuse to believe he's the best punter available

I never figured out why they don’t do it. BTW, I checked and the CFL ball is now identical in specifications to the NFL ball. It has been for some time.

Yeah, it's definitely a mystery to me. In fact, that applies to any position. You mean to tell me that there's nobody in the CFL that's good enough to play in the NFL? I have a hard time believing that

I don't want a return of PH I can't take his 58 yd 64 yd then a 27 yd shank . I think the perfect punting style for the NFL is punt it 42 yds and high for max hang time but be freaking consistent.

I'm sure players have contracts in the CFL too, guess they can't break them to go to the NFL. But still, how difficult would it be to find a guy that can punt the ball 40-45 yards consistently without shanking it every other time?

LOL! I was thinking about him last night too. We won a Superbowl with him and his 30 yard punts. I was at that game and I'll never forget walking out right behind 5 or 6 people with Berger jerseys on, so obviously it was his family because who the hell else would have a Berger jersey?

I think the ball is a little bigger too… not sure if that is the problem or not, may just be physiological
