they said they kept him last year because he had a partialy guaranteed contract. they had to pay him if he was here or not. maybe they do keep him but it's not looking great for him so far.

I got N. Williams oon the PS. Is it possible we keep Williams on the roster instead.. If ziggy and woods can be interchangeable at NT do they keep wiiliams and stash both Ta'amu and fangupo on the PS. I doubt they keep two NTs on the PS. I don't think they'll keep on 5 DL on the 53, 6 most likely.

Tarheelflyer, I think in your scenarios both 2&3 is most likely.

Maybe, but Tarheel makes a good point about only dressing so many guys. After all, Ta'amu will never be playing DE, whereas Woods can play both positions. It's how Essex got to stick around.

I'm not saying Ta'amu is currently better than Woods, but the versatility factor likely has a lot to do with it.

I'd like to see Ta'amu stick around, I still believe he can be a good NT for us. I also think them holding onto him has more to do with just salary, they dropped Rainey in a blink of an eye and Ta'amus rap sheet was a mile longer. I think they still see something in him. I'm not very confident saying that however since you never hear a peep about his play.

Me too. I think he has potential and would like to see him flourish. I also feel all the competition for defensive snaps at NT is a way to "wake up" a sleeping giant, hopefully. In the past they had Hampton, with Hokie as back-up, then they had McLendon as back-up. Now they have McLendon as "the man" in the middle and no clear #2. Woods Time at @#2 during OTAs& mini camp was most likely to see if he could learn the assignments. After all football in shorts is no time to determine and promote players. Woods versatility will determine his role for this team but I feel it will have little effect on whether we keep Ta'amu or not. That will be determined in Training camp with his direct competition @ NT.

woods has been here awhile now. he showed me alot of hustle last year, chasing clear to the opposite sideline to be in on the tackle. he definately has gotten better, learning what your doing helps that, though. a constant rotation could work with who we have out of those 5.

of course i'm not ruling arnfelt out yet either. i like that kids stregnth with speed and quickness. he will create mismatches with his quickness off the snap.

the motor in woods is high and maybe this is the way the coaches throw him a bone for hard work.

i know one thing, even the PS is going to be hard to decide. lot's of good young talent here right now. i want to hoard it all. we may have to hobble a couple of guys for a year or so. is this wrong? LOL:rolleyes:
