I completely agree. Unfortunately I live in New England and see the Pats on TV a lot. As you said, they just don't seem to have these types of games. More often then not they go up big on teams like Tennessee. This has been an issue for the Steelers for a while now. It is rare that they put teams away or get "splash plays". When is the last time we've seen a blocked punt but us? How about a defensive TD or even a big return?

I was thinking A as well, but.... I looked at some data.

Suisham is 4/10 in his career in 50+ yd FGs. That's much better FG% than I'd have thought. So Tomlin had a 40% chance of taking the lead w/ 49 seconds left. A miss however, gives TN the ball at the their 44.

The chance of Ben completing a 4th Down play and getting a FD is about 60%, based what he's done this year. A incompletion gives TN the Ball at their 37 w/ 45 seconds or so. But a completion likely does not give the Steelers the lead. They'd have to run a few more plays, but they could have run the clock down to nothing before the FG.

The punt is a play for OT. Butler has put 45% of his punts inside the 20. With 3 TO's and 45 seconds, can TN move from their 20 to the Steeler 25 (55 yds) in that time? Certainly they could have.

I still think going for it on 4th Down (Option A) was probably the best, but kicking the FG (Option B) was a riskier option, but not a terrible one. Punting (Option C) gave you no chance to win, and betting that the D could stop a quick last minute drive and get you to OT, and that I think was the worst option. But I do wonder this. Had Tomlin opted to go for it and Ben got sacked or Brown dropped the ball. I wonder how many fans would be complaining that they didn't try the FG. I mean after all Suishy hit a 52 yder earlier?

Tomlin iced his own kicker with a timeout just before he kicked it. Who does that?

It doesnt matter who the best CB is. The Steeler's refuse to spend any decent round draft pick on the most glaringly bad unit on their team. I have been advocating for a DB in round 1 or 2 for YEARS but it never happens. 75% if not more of this board have been totally against getting a DB as well... everyone wants lineman, lineman and more lineman. I get we need those as well but FFS GET US A SOLID CORNER OR SAFETY!

    A. This team is soft...plain and simple
    B. Lewis is a mirror image of Ike, unfortunately not the Ike from years past.
    C. Defense can't get pressure
    D. Did I mention this team is soft?

The blocked punt was terrible on Mundy and 1st and goal at the 1-ft line is basically a gimmie TD for any team.

The int in the last drive of the half was a killer and was a minimun 6 point swing, maybe 10. Ben was off on several plays today, there were a few where the ball sailed so high that nobody knew where it was suppose to go. We had several 3 and outs again (reminded me of last year). When he missed a wide open Sanders on 3rd down, that was tough as it could have most likely won the game.

I have typically defended Ike in the past, but he seems to have bought into his own hype. His technique seems to be poor and he tries to reply on his speed to make up for his initial bad habits, but then he grabs and holds. Their DBs (which are no all-star team) played so much better than ours, it is not even funny. The PI was terrible, the hold later on 3rd down was even worse, as it allowed them to get a TD vice a FG and that play, even if a reception would have led to 4th down. And how cn he not defend that pass that Britt bobbled and re-caught? Lewis seems lost often and yes he should have caught that ball that was right to him. 28 had the only good looking pass defense of the game on our side. McCourtney looked like an all-pro compared to Ike and Lewis.

Batch seems to lack vision, it is ashame when the commentators can point out a gaping hole where Adams seal off the inside and Heath was effectively blocking the next guy and Batch cut into a pile???? Good thing Chris Johnson does not run like Foster, of he would have had 150 yards. CJ dances so much when it is not necessary - Foster strides and hits the holes.

After Timmons comes up with a huge Int, the O has to go get a score, same thing after the big Rainey return.

Tomlin should have never tried a 54 yarder with that much time left. Eiterh go for it or punt and pin them and play for OT. Too big of a risk, and I was yelling at the TV when he decided to go for the FG. It was about 8 inches from being a 55 yarder and SS does not have great distance.

Why can the opponents KR take it 8 yards deep and still get out past the 25 routinely without holds and illegal blocks. Our coverage seems to get down there but then big gaps open up, where our KRs seem to get often hit by a guy knifing in on them. Our coverage team lets the guy get in front of them and have to drag him down from behind. Suishams KOs have been more than adequate (and actually what most team like - about 8 yards deep).

We were down to our #4 RB (Mendy, Redman, Dwyer all hurt).

Hewath Miller played a stellar game - caught everthing he could have and blocked great again.

Our Oline played better than I though after all the injuries - even Foster and Starks appear injured. Only guy not injured on the line seems to be Colon. Still, I cna't understand why Mendy gets hit while taking the hand-off so often and other teams RB get a nice running start before even having to think about a defender.

Wallace seems to lack the desire that both Brown and Sanders show, especially while blocking. He did actually make a catch with his hands today, which shocked me.

I actually think Ben was thinking about his yardage a bit and breaking TBs record.

This team is lacking in Offense, Defense, Special Teams, and Coaching right now.

I've said it before...there is no heart or leadership on this team. Nobody is getting fired up like a Lloyd or Porter. Everybody just stands around with a glazed look in their eyes with their mouths wide open with that "duh" look. It's almost like they don't care or they think, "oh we're the Steelers, we won't lose". They've dug themselves into a whole that is too deep to get out of. At least they have the rest of this year to try new things & get ready for next year. 3 AFC losses to horrid sucky teams. Even if they run the table (which there is no chance in hell of happening) they'd lose several tie breakers & probably not make it. Schedule is only getting tougher from here on out. Lucky to be 6-10 this year. Get a leader on this team, hire Joey Porter as a linebacker coach or something, get someone in there to light a fire under some butts. Pretty sad....storied football team of greatness for decades has become a laughable pathetic embarrassment.

Coaches need to Coach...Players need to make plays...Tomlin's becoming a cheerleader not a HC leader. If your players are not performing well than bench em...I would have had the waterboy in for ike or lewis...This team has started out soft due to all the rule changes and the younger drafts are turning into busts...

I dont even know where to start- with the exception of the person saying we need to trade for the Rams kicker (the least of our worries in my opinion), I agree with everything on here. Tomlin should have been in Ike's face for the way he played. Lewis is a step backward from Gay. We are injury prone and its always the same players - Pouncey, Woodley, Polamalu :frustrated: Wallace is quite possibly the worst blocker in the history of the NFL but let's continue to call the play requiring him to do just that  I have been a Tomlin supporter the entire time he has been here however, he has lost control of this team. We are in no way a playoff team.

    The Blocked Punt

Should have never happened. They didn't run the hurry up offense to that point in the game. Then all of a sudden they try to get another play in which ends up costing the game.

    Obviously out coached again.

Tomlin doesn't have his team prepared. This game should have never been close and once again Mike has them playing at an elementary level. DISGUSTING.

I'm just so glad that I got to see him and Troy giggling on the sidelines together.

I have always liked Tomlin- however, last night after Taylor's ridiculous display of ineptness, I was SO pissed to not see Tomlin getting in his face! Wasnt Tomlin a DB coach?? WHY are our's SO bad???

I know this has been discussed, but Tomlin acquired a great team when Bill left. They are now older and slower. Could it be that we now are finding out that Tomlin has had success because of what Cowher built?? Now, we are finding out what kind of coach Mike truly is? The season still has a long way to go and things may get turned around, but Im not sure I like the core of coaches that Tomlin has hired. Hope this is just a slump and not a preview of whats to come in the future.

And, yes, I think alot of this falls on Tomlin and his coaching abilities.

The correct decision between punt, pass or kick at the end was to try to draw them offsides, take the delay if they don't jump and then punt. If they do jump, you just gained 5 yards and are now looking at a 49 yarder...you kick it then.

Truly going for it, is a move of desperation. You either punt or kick, but if you go empty backfield and hard count, you might get an additional 5 yards which would have been enough to win that game. Well, assuming our D wasn't butter when they got the ball back. I think that is the part that frustrates me. Somehow, I truly believe with our special teams we would have given them the ball on like the 40 and we would have been losing on a last second TD.

why are we not seeint the young d-lineman get more time? Hampton and Keisel have been great Steelers, but their time has come.

when its Hood, McClendon and Heyward they get so much more push up front. why can i see that on tv, but DL and the rest of the coaches cant see it?

loyalty is great, but not at the expense of the team. at some point changes need to be made.

they are 2-3 and by no means is the season over, but i think its time we start to see the young guys get more playing time.

i want more Adams, Heyward, McClendon and Allen.

the only part of the defense that is actually doing something is Clark and lately Timmons. the rest have either been hurt or old or just under performing.

    i would love to see:

Hood, McClendon and Heyward up front.

Harrison, Woodley, Timmons and Worilds at lb

Allen and Lewis at DB. Ike's time has come.

Troy and Clark at safety. i know Troy has been hurt, but this is my wish list.

the defense cannot hold a lead. i know the offense is still inconsistant, but i still believe they are very close to hitting on all cylinders. it would be nice if i had the same feeling about the defense.

im not complainin g about Ben, but on the last drive when he scrambled to extend the play like only he can, he had Batch wide open and just missed him. that was the game right there. that and the run play right before that where Batch lost 2 yards. Suishams kick was a yard and half short.

Exactly!! What is up with Kiesel?? He is a non-factor after being so dominate last season. Hampton has no business being out there yet we continue to start him. I would love to see McClendon and Heyward starting. Maybe Curtis Brown is not the answer at CB but he is not any worse than Taylor. Have him and Allen at CB's and see what happens.

kicking was the best thing to do , if we would have punt they would have march from the twenty anyway (bironas ha s good leg) going for was a solution but probably lesss probable than kick , of course before yuo have to try to drag them offside then call a time out at 1 second , i had more faith on sushy leg than our secondary could stop them , we lost tyhe game when we missed the int with lewis and when ben cannot pass to batch wide open after scrumble on the last drive , mundy has another big part of it because the miss assignement on blocking punt , i would cut him immediately

and another things ... next year when we will have the two best olineman like pouncey and de castro on the side of gilbert look out because they can be injuried again

If Baron Batch didn't run straight in to a brick wall we could've gotten more yards on 2nd down. Ben threw up his hands right after the play and I was at the game and don't know if they showed this on tv. But I thought the reason Ben threw his hands up was because he was trying to figure out if Suisham thought he had the leg. I think they were playing for a field goal the whole time. Atleast that was my vibe in the stadium.

No way, kicking it was the worst thing we could have done. Remember Suisham is known for NOT being able to kick it far. See how he can almost NEVER kick it out of the endzone. Tomlin has to know this. You don't try a career long field goal on grass in an open stadium with a kicker, who is known to not kick far, when you can punt it. I mean if you have to kick it to win the game then you have to kick it. But we could have punted and put them deep. Bironas is a long kicker They only had to go like 20 yards to be in his range. Tomlin has to put this all together and say, my defense between the 20's has been horrendous tonight, no way should I give them the ball on the 45 with a minute left or whatever it was. Punt it and Play for OT especially with the new OT rules. And yes I think if they started on the 20 or less instead of the 45 we would have been able to keep them out of FG range. But if not then so be it. If we pinned them deep with a minute left and they drove the field for the win then they deserve it. We gave them 1/2 the field and lost because of it.
