OMG! Usenet was horrible! There was so much homophobic and racial hate spewing forth there! I had a block list pages long!

That is not lost on me. :)

For that matter, even for the time, I may have got off easy.

And yet... a guy I knew, during the end of that same game, threw his glass mug THROUGH his almost new big screen. Now I ask ya, who did the crazier thing? ;)

All that nonsense is decades behind me now. Either I've mellowed, or I just don't have the energy anymore. :)

Heh, I broke a glass coffee table and threw a beer bottle across the house causing all kinds of carnage after the 5 overtime game a the Pens had back in the 90's.

I have no Pirates gear from my teenage years because I destroyed it all after that last 9th inning meltdown against the Braves in 92? Ahh, put a few holes in the barracks door and walls.

I've always been able to direct it away from the expensive electronics though.

That is what I've been wondering. I mean if we are sick of the Tomlinisms and tune them out then I'd imagine the players are the same way.

I think Tomlin being young and hip worked for a while, but maybe it is hard for the players to respect Tomlin for it now. That is not to say they disrespect him, but I think there is something to be said for the older mentor type that commands respect, like Dick Lebeau seems to have from the defensive guys. Hate to keep going back to it, but remember James Harrison's reactions to Cowher and especially Lebeau in that MNF interview the other week, compared to his reaction to Tomlin? Anyone think Harrison had tuned out Lebeau? I don't think so.

It would be great if you could start a thread that included your first Tomlin interview, and then follow it up with weekly pre and post game interviews?? We badly need humor around here.

Hell, maybe you could even sneek in an occasional interview with "Gomer Fife" (Coach Smith)?? Though videos would be much more funnier in his case. :lolol:

The Tomlinisms are for you and the media, I'm quite sure he speaks differently to the team and in a more direct manner.

This and when Neil O'Donnell threw the second pick in the SB against the cowgirls are the two worst moments for me as a sports fan.

Quite. Tomlin is media savvy. He is in a way that your Ryan's and Harbaugh's aren't - though they make great TV precisely because of that.

Media savvy-ness has nothing to do with coaching style, though.

It makes me think of when you were in school, and there always that teacher who was shouting at the class. And from that, presuming that at home they must also be the worst/strictest/angriest parent ever. Then you see the teacher out of work with his kids, and he's a completely different person with them. Barely recognisable. And it dawns on you... people may just act differently in different contexts, and different relationships.

I'm not saying from this: Tomlin must be a great coach. But going from how someone is at a press conference to how they might be in front of the team is a big, big jump.
