Post Christmas NFL hangovers and High Hopes.

Well, the Giants and Raiders meet this weekend in Las Vegas with what will be most likely the #1 pick on the line. Both are terrible but I think the Raiders are more terrible. If I were to guess, I'd say the Raiders will lose out since they have the Giants and Chiefs to close out a miserable season.
Need some anxiety? Pittsburgh certainly is dosing Peto Bismal by the quart.
- Baltimore travels to Green Bay and Baltimore needs to win out to even have a chance. Normally, one could chalk this up as a loss, but the football gods cannot let it be that easy. Green Bay's QB's are injured and as of now, still iffy. To add more tension, Jackson doesn't look like he'll play. Green Bay clinched a playoff spot and it's a long shot to improve their position and may choose to rest their starters.

- Pittsburgh on the other hand, goes to Cleveland needing to 'just win.' Cleveland is terrible and wants nothing more than to spoil Pittsburgh's playoff hopes. The only real positive for Cleveland is to see if Myles Garret can tie (1/2 sack) or set the NFL sack record (1 sack) on Aaron Rogers. Meanwhile Metcalf, a difference maker WR has pulled a stupid and hurts the team by being suspended for the final and very important 2 games and Tomlin and company will have to find somebody to step it up,

- Baltimore plays Saturday @ 8pm, Go Pack! Pittsburgh plays Sundays @1PM.

- If Pittsburgh Clinches, it looks like they will host the Chargers.

- Going into the playoffs hot is typically desired and right now the hot ones are:
The Jags with a 6-game winning streak.
The Bills with a 4-game winning streak
The Chargers with a 4-game winning streak.
The Broncos are peaking at the right time and seem to be most complete.
The Patriots are right there with the Broncos.
Houston has the toughest defense,,, winning 10 of the last 12 games.
Pittsburgh is riding a 3-game winning streak and with all the injuries it's smoke and mirrors, a suspension does not help at all.

What's on the line for the Steelers?
- If they choke out of the playoffs by losing out, it would be a serious backhand from the obvious. In most cases, it would be clean house time, but the Steelers don't operate that way. So, I am not sure anything changes either way.

A few staffs around the league will be dismissed, with a lot of help being needed in Pittsburgh, I wonder if anything changes. Staffs on the hot seats:
* Washington - I don't know how Dan Quinn survives but if he doesn't, as a Defensive Coordinator he would be a huge upgrade. Kingsbury has done a fantastic job as OC but I think someone tags him for HC.
* New York Giants - There's not a name on that staff I would want,
* Ditto the Jets.
* Miami, I don't think there's any fits there either.
* Raiders? Hard Pass
* Browns - Jim Schwartz is a very good DC and would also be an upgrade but familiarity could be an issue.
* Cardinals and Titans... I dunno, pass.

It would be nice to mine out a good Offensive Line Coach.

 

Jackson not playing gives me hope Saturday night. I'm always told to stop rushing my life away but these days can't go fast enough. I can't wait until Saturday night and Sunday afternoon.

Funny, my wife who has zero interest in any sport asked me why I'm interested in a game not involving Steelers. I told her the situation. She said if Green Bay wins I won't hear you say the F word 1000 times on Sunday. I told her it's a possibility. Next words out of her mouth. GO GREEN BAY!!!!

 

My wife mostly makes “ Alone” plans on Sundays during football season.

Fortunately, my wife who is as sweet as sweet transforms into something I am almost afraid of.
I've heard her say words on bad calls I didn't even think she knew, truck drivers would blush.
And don't sack her QB, she can unleash a tirade of curse words that to borrow a famous quote and add some to it, "wove a tapestry over South Carolina that will still be around long after the sun burns out."
Women who love football can serve pretty and very tasty snacks yet turn into tooth gnashing snarling wolves...
