Yeah, I voted the "fear of replacing him" option.
I kept rooting for us, while we had a buncha miserable qb`s after Terry, I would prefer to put that situation off, as long as possible, before it happens again.
I, also, can`t help but feel, that Ben can still get back to what he was, and pull off some great comeback wins for us again...
It`s not like he could have forgotten how to be a great QB in this league( I Hope)...
But, he has GOT to limit the turnovers... This year(and the second half of last season), he is turning into a turnover machine.
Maybe, it`s because he`s trying to do too much... Maybe it`s just a result of the "high risk/high reward", riverboat gambler style of play he has always had, and he`s paying the price, on more of those throws, than he did in the past.
It COULD be just flat out declining skills, but I doubt that...
I think it`s more a case of "living on the edge" will catch up to ya, from time to time, and he has always pushed his luck.
It has led to some great plays in the past...As recently as last week, he got off a shovel pass to Bell, that was "ill-advised", but Bell turned it into about a 20 yard gain for a 1st down...
That`s just how Ben plays... He takes his chances.
He wouldn`t have the success he has had, if he didn`t.
It also, bites him in the ass, when he gets TOO careless/reckless, like throwin deep for Brown, from his endzone, and having to say after the game... " I just put it up, for my receiver to make a play on the ball"..
No, THAT was a stupid decision.
And he has been making more of those, lately, than just taking chances, when he has to.
I guess what I am trying to say, is, I am willing to accept the risks that come with keeping him as our qb, but, I want him to stop trying to do everything himself, and be willing to throw the ball away/ hit the checkdown receiver.
At times he does, most of the time, he does not.
That`s what ya get with Big Ben.
That, and 2 more rings than we had before he got here...
So, I want him to retire as a Steeler, because he has proven he can win games for us, and I believe he has more of those wins left in him, and also, just because I think it`s very cool for any player in the modern NFL, to retire after only playing for one team.
It doesn`t happen too often anymore, but if i didn` think he STILL gave us a good chance to win, I wouldn`t let that be the most important factor. It`s just that it would be very cool.
So, I guess you could say that his "legacy", has some impact on my choice, also.
    GO STEELERS!!!
