This is one very possible situation we'll face tonight, and I think it's a good apples to apples comparison. In the poll above, you get two votes: who the Steelers SHOULD take, and who the Steelers WILL take. (Forget everyone else for the purposes of this poll. Just pretend these are the only two guys that are options.)

Do the Steelers take Johnson, the well-rounded, safe, high-character, high floor, moderate ceiling CB?

Or do they take Peters, the risky, low-character, low floor, high ceiling CB?

I've gone back and forth on this a little, and my take is that Johnson is a better pick, because even with a lower ceiling, he carries much less risk, and for the Steelers to draft a CB that pans out at all is a victory. A safe bet like Johnson would be a win.

For me it comes down to... If we take Johnson and pass on Peters, then Peters goes on to be a better player with no problems, that would feel bad. But if we take Peters and pass on Johnson, and Peters continues his struggles and doesn't even get a second contract, or we have to cut him, or we have to trade him like Santonio, or he gets suspended... that would feel worse. And I also think it's more likely to happen than Johnson busting while Peters succeeds. I'm willing to sacrifice a little bit of potential for a lot of security. Especially now, and especially at this position.

    But what's your take?

I'll clarify: if it definitely came down to only these two guys.

I'm basing this on the premises that the Steelers vetted Peters up and down and deemed him ok. Based on that, Steelers should and will take Peters.

After a lot of thought, I think I agree. I'm leaning towards should take Johnson but will take Peters. But I'm gonna wait until the draft starts to vote. Actually, I think they'll take Johnson. My mind changed like 4 times just typing this post. I am so clueless this year.

One thing I meant to mention before but forgot: Johnson seems more ready-made for our scheme. He's done a healthy mix of zone and man. Peters is more of a press guy. Maybe Butler will be transitioning us in that direction, but we don't know that, so based on our 2014 defense (and all defenses previous) Peters would have more adjusting to do.

I voted for- they will take KJ. Smaller guy but durable for 41 straight games in college. Do they want to take a chance on headaches so soon after Blount walked out? Peters has little tape from last year so its tough to evaluate how he'll improve over the season as well. Tough call but I'm all about the safe picks this year.
