Muth, for sure. I was a little surprised when they drafted him, but hopeful. Yeah, it's only 8 games, but there is a lot to be optimistic about with Muth.

I never look back and wish we selected different players because it may have ended up worse. No one will ever know. We did good as evidenced by the actual results so far with Harris and Muth. Even if we selected Marino, he could have blew out a knee and ended his career in his first game. This is just as valid a statement as anyone saying he would have had a HOF career as a Steeler. Our 1st round busts, while disappointing, could have been the same or worse if picking someone else. It happens. Same goes for FA's. How many end up playing as well for their new team as they did for the team they came from? Definitely not 100%. (See Duce Staley). JMO>

Bush has definitely regressed. He made a couple of nice plays, including the pass he broke up down the field, but he was also a big part of the problem in the run defense again. He just misreads too many plays, often taking himself out of it and making life far too easy on the opposing offensive line.

This implies that even with the full benefit of hindsight, you wanted the Steelers to reach for an offensive lineman in the first round even though we know he lasted to the end of the second round. Interesting.

Maybe it would have made sense if they could have traded out of the first round, gaining a second-rounder and another selection. If the choice was Harris and Freiermuth or Humphrey, Freiermuth and an additional draft pick, then I might lean that way.

It's almost as if there are 5 offensive linemen.

How is drafting a RB in the first with other holes on the team been working for Carolina? Minnesota? The Giants? The Jags? Those guys will all be spent by the time their teams are ready to compete for a Super Bowl, Fournette isn't even with his team anymore. They drafted a running back instead of Mahomes or Watson. What dopes.

Zeke and Jacobs at least went to teams with offensive lines, but their defenses stink. Don't see either of them winning a Super Bowl, though I suppose the Cowboys have an outside shot this year.

Only time I'd consider spending a first on a RB is if the team was loaded everywhere else, making the luxury more affordable.

I also wanted the Steelers to draft a 2nd rounder in the 1st, a LB that goes by the name of Leonard.

    Heard of him?

Leonard didn't make it to the Steelers' selection in the second round. Humphrey did. Next time get your facts right before you attempt a mic drop.

It is nice to see you finally coming back around to admitting that what you really wanted was for the Steelers to reach for an offensive lineman who was available at the end of the second round rather than Harris, who would have been long gone by their second pick.

Agree. Heath Miller is the best Steelers TE in history. Friermuth could challenge. Friermuth is on trajectory to be HOF TE on par with the greats. Colbert made a damn good pick that will pay dividends for years.

If you watch their games, you’ll see that the issues have nothing to do with Humphrey. He’s been playing great ball.

Here’s the thing: we don’t know how well our offense would be functioning with a solid, fully NFL ready center like Humphrey. We know that Muth has looked good in the B&G as a rookie, but if we had Humphrey we likely would have had a more effective run game and interior protection going back to week 1. Would that have resulted in us being better than 5-3 right now? Maybe yes, maybe no. It’s tough to say since our only frame of reference this season is how our line has performed with a rookie center who has been enduring some growing pains on the field. He is generally getting better, but may never get to the level of play that Humphrey has established right now. I doubt that he will based on what I’ve seen so far.

Really, we won’t know who would have been the better pick for a few years. Barring significant injury, I expect both will be solid 10+ year starters in the league. So when asked “Freiermuth or Humphrey,” my answer could simply be “yes please.”

He also would have been a great pick in the second round. That is who I wanted them to take and I still lean that way, but I'm certainly not complaining about them taking Freiermuth. Both were good values. Both look like excellent players at the pro level.

Slow your roll. Long way to go before we put those expectations on Muth.

I was one of those- I am not going to lie, I was really disappointed we didn't draft OL. I like the draft pick way more than I did but I can't say I would pick one over the other since I have no idea how having an OL player would be affecting our team right now. I do like Pat a lot though.

But you wanted them to "draft a 2nd rounder in the 1st". You're peeing down your leg again, which is when you start to get snotty and try to put words in the other person's mouth. Probably need another time out.

And yep, I would have been fine with that. Actually, probably would have preferred Dickenson, but Humphrey is playing like a first rounder and filled a more important role than RB.

RB in the first with so many bigger, harder to fill holes is brain dead, basic football intelligence that I'm not surprised you do not possess.

Finding a complete tight end in the second round is tough to do. So I would take muth over Humphrey 7 days a week and twice on Sundays.

Nice try, but the situations are different. Leonard was not available when the Steelers picked in the second round. Humphrey was available when the Steelers picked in the second round. The difference is very clear, but you want to ignore it because it turns your attempted mic drop into a failure.

The situations are also different in another way. Edmunds wasn't a first-round prospect. In some pre-draft rankings, he wasn't in the top 100. Harris was regarded as a first-round back in most rankings.

Would Humprhies be doing as well here? Does Denver run the same outside zone blocking or are they more hat on hat?

Scheme fit matters when making a draft pick.
