Does anybody else agree that RB by committee is overrated? It seems to me that when we try to get equal time for the RBs it doesn't allow any of them to get into the flow of the game. I've also heard the suggestion that we see who's hot early and go with them as the primary back the rest of the game. The trouble is that while that sounds good theoretically, this kind of approach is not conducive to allowing any of the RBs to get into any sort of rhythm. The approach that I would take is to commit to ONE RB and stay committed throughout the game, spelling him with the other two as appropriate. My pick as the starter would be Dwyer but whoever it is, stay with him and forget about this RBBC crap!:bscow:

I agree. I personally want to see Mendenhall get 20+ carries for the next couple weeks, and see what him and Haley can do together. Haley was raving about getting Mendy back long ago, and he hasn't really been able to use him except for one game. If after a few games of 20+ carries he doesn't look good, then give the rock to Dwyer and give him 20+ carries. I believe Mendy will get us the most results though.

I'm all for situational football though. 3rd and 1? Bring in the heavy package and have Redman run as hard as he can to try to convert. Otherwise I want to see a bellcow RB, not this RBBC crap. It doesn't work for New Orleans despite them opening things up with the passing game. All they did is ruin a former heisman trophy winner in Ingram.

That's my understanding, and if he is we need to commit to him. My preference, however, would be Dwyer.

Mendy is starting, but i think they will split carries and i hate that... when dwyer started to run good the last 3 games they would always bring another rb in the next drive

We'll find out in about 5 hours. Until then, only Haley and Tomlin know

Tomlin said earlier that Mendy will be the starter, but you're going to see all the backs used (Dwyer and Redman).

I would agree running back by committee is not the way to go. Redman and Dwyer are the type of backs that need plenty of carries to get into the flow and wear a defense out. We saw on monday that rotating them by quarter was not effective. Mendenhall is the only one of the three that is a quick hitter and doesn't need that kind of work necessarily to be effective. I would like to see him used more because he has a faster burst from a still position than the others and would use him on delays when the Ravens blitz off the edge and are overaggressive.
