Because of our history of playing good against good teams and bad against bad teams
How else to explain that we lose to Tampa at home but beat the Colts at home

For some the glass is half-full. For some, the glass is half-empty.

For Real Steel, the glass is smashed in pieces on the floor, and its contents was only ever the tears of abandoned hope.

I won't deny the history of playing up or down to our opponents. I wouldn't use it as the only indicator of why we win or lose, though.

:lolol: I'm with you there! :lolol:

In regards to Steelers playoff hopes... If the Steelers pull off these 3 home wins... especially given who they are playing... It will say a lot about who they are and who they want to be. It would indicate they are ready to dig in and play some good football. And I think that would mean they could definitely beat all of the teams left on their schedule. Of course, it will nice to see if they can take this same intensity and focus on the road with them.

If they beat the Ravens, then I see at least a wild card. And that's only given that they have more lapses in focus through the 2nd half of the season. But I hope this is not the case. If not, then I think they take the 2nd or 3rd seed.

As long as the team maintains intensity and focus, they should take both games. Do you see shenanigans coming? I'm not saying it can't happen... but it would have to be that or a serious rash of injuries...

This is how I see it...
    EAST
Pats - gonna win the division
Bills - outside chance of wild card, but really not a threat of being better than 8-8
    Phins- suck
    Jets - REALLY suck

    WEST
Broncos - gonna win the division
Chargers - compete for a wild card
Chiefs - compete for wild card
    Raiders - epic sucking

    SOUTH
Colts - gonna win the division
Texans - outside shot at wild card, but no real threat to be better than 8-8
    Titans - suck
    Jags- suck

    NORTH
Steelers - shot at both the division and wild card
Ravens - shot at both the division and wild card
Bengals - shot at both the division and wild card.
Browns - outside shot at wild card, but no real threat to finish better than 8-8

So in short there are 3 divisions all but locked up. Broncos, Colts, and Pats. Our division is up for grabs. The two wild card spots are gonna come down to the two teams that don't win the north and the Chargers and Chiefs. Each division will get one wild card. While it would be the most ideal to win the division, I think that if we get second in our division we are in for sure. Our remaining games are all huge, but the division games and the game vs KC will have some serious playoff implications.

Funny you should say that Real.....I was in town for the Colts game. Was in a cab Sat.night BSing with the driver he asked how I thought the STEELERS would do next day. My answer was I wasnt expecting a win but the STEELERS do always seem to play to their competition. He did agree. And we won. You might be right. I really hope not!!!!

Here are the remaining schedules for our likely in-division and out-of-division competitors for playoff spots:

    Division:
    Ravens (5-3): Titans, @Saints, Chargers, @Dolphins, Jags, @Texans, Browns
    Bengals (4-2-1): Jags, Browns, @Saints, @Texans, @Bucs, STEELERS, @Browns, Broncos, @STEELERS

There's no doubt that this is a very important game. Win or lose there's still a ton of football left, but if you look at the remainder of the Ravens' schedule, it's pretty favorable for them. The Ravens don't play down to lesser competition often, and I have a hard time seeing more than 1 or 2 losses after Sunday's game. Even if we win Sunday night, I see them as a 10-6 team at worst the way that they're playing. If we don't win Sunday night, we'll be pretty far behind the eight ball against them with the head to head tiebreaker lost. If we win, we'll be 2-2 in division, and they'll be 2-3. That puts us in the drivers seat for a potential division record tiebreaker. By contrast, the Bengals have a tougher road remaining, and I could see them losing 5 more games. They're in the drivers seat right now, but it's going to be a hot seat. I know I should probably put the 4-3 Browns in the mix as well, but I think they're streak of competitiveness is winding down. A blowout loss to the Jags and a so so game at home against the Raiders have them looking more like the Browns we know and love so well. I guess when you play your Super Bowl in Week 6, it's tough to figure out what to do with the rest of the season.

    Out of division:
    Chiefs (4-3): Jets, @Bills, Seahawks, @Raiders, Broncos, @Cards, Raiders, @STEELERS, Chargers
    Chargers (5-3): @Dolphins, Raiders, Rams, @Ravens, Pats, Broncos, @49ers, @Chiefs
    Bills (5-3): Chiefs, @Dolphins, Jets, Browns, @Broncos, Packers, @Raiders, @Pats

The Chiefs and Chargers both have fairly difficult remaining schedules, but they're also pretty sold teams. I think one of them gets to 10 wins, and claims a playoff spot. It will probably come down to that Week #17 matchup. The Bills have a pretty favorable schedule the next few weeks. I could see them going 3-1 after their bye to get to 8-4 with the stretch run remaining. However, that final 4 game stretch run would be tough for anyone, let alone a team that's building like the Bills. The thing that scares me is the Bills could potentially be 9-6 going into Week 17 in New England with Brady and other starters resting because the Pats have clinched their playoff seed. They could back in to 10-6 under that scenario. I doubt it will happen, but you never know.

Looking at all of the above, I really think it's going to take 10 wins to get a playoff spot in the AFC this year, and 11 wins to take the AFC North. If we win Sunday, I like our chances. If we lose, we're not out of it, but we'll have a tough road to get there.

5th seed right now. I guess the Steelers' 6-3 isn't as good as the Bengals' 5-2-1. Colts are 4th seed, depending on tomorrow's game.

    Bengals win/loss% is .688
    Steelers win/loss% is .667

that tie throws a monkey wrench into it all

Beating the Bengals would take care of everything.
