How can Tomlin say what Mitchell did was ok. He cost team 15 yards and first down. They would have punted.

I just do not understand how a coach thinks it is ok. He hit his helmet on the Bengals player.

How about he celebrates with his teammates that helped him. Then NO flag.

It might be time to get a tougher coach here. That fits Steeler football.

Oh god where is the nearest bridge or conversely heavily wooded field where I can hide a body.

Only thing I have read with Coach T being OK with anything was the hit, and celebration after, that Mitchell laid on there receiver. He may have said the above mentioned also, but just havent seen it yet?

Do you have a problem with Mike Mitchell running across the field after his big hit?

No. He didn’t stand over an injured player, or demine him or show any disrespect in any way. He was excited about a positive play he made for us. He made a conscious decision to really get away from the man. No. I have no issues with what he did.

    Later

Mike Mitchell running on the field at the end of the game:

I think he was trying to communicate something to someone that was on the field that was going to play that down. Guys prepare themselves for situational football in those moments. He was obviously prepared to play and was prepared for that moment. He had lived from an inside the helmet perspective on a lot of moments leading up to that one. I think he felt like he had some information that might be helpful to those that were on the grass. But I am speculating there. I didn’t get the detail of what he communicated to the guys that were on the field.

oh the horror! How dare Tomlin say such things. He must be fired immediately and then drawn and quartered. Is it just Steeler fans that ***** about anything and everything under the sun after a loss?

No just pissed our coach thinks it is ok to get a 15 yard penalty to extend a drive.
That is why we lose games now. No discipline!

A good coach would say Mitchell has to stay away from making contact with another player after the play. Our coach says it is ok.

No wonder we keep getting dumb penaltys

Now Mitchell is trying to say he did nothing wrong.

This cycle will not help us in close games. No one want to take blame except our QB.

Heck our coach thinks saving TO for offense is smart. Have to use TO when on D. They burnt like 40 seconds.

When everyone knows you can save more time on Offense because you control it.

I would hope that Tomlin is saying that to the media and behind closed doors telling Mitchell to knock that crap off.

Despite that dumb penalty though, the Steelers are the 7th least penalized team in the league, so they really aren't that undisciplined.

Yes and no, Cincy took away the outside stuff. That just leaves spiking the ball to stop the clock.

Tomlin is not exactly a disciplinarian but for gosh sake, don't call him a players coach. Don't you know that's racist?

I thought this was going to be about Tomlin kissing players during games.

    I think that's weird.

Cowher did it too didn't he? Tomlin just really loves Cam's head. Would you rather be patted on the butt or kissed on the head...by another man? If you think about it there are things that happen in sports which if they happen in the real world could cause a fight. One time I smacked a buddy on the butt at work as a joke and he said "DUDE! What are you doing?!" and I said "I was just acting like we were on a football field!" and we were all laughing about it because it was just making a joke out of things that are considered normal on a football field. There are other things that can happen on a field that can't happen other places. Where else can you exchange punches with a dude or slam guy's head in a helmet or step on a dude's face and do it with basically complete legal immunity? Only in sports can that happen. I think that's weird.

^Not that I'm aware of. Peezy kissed Cowher once when Cowher was close-talking him.

I don't mind that he's a players' coach. I just wish he showed better awareness of situational football and game management than a tackling dummy.

Green was jawing with Mitchell. Mitchell jawed back. Mitchell got the flag. Would you rather have a bunch of soft disposition Defensive players? Did you just love the hit on Marvin Jones? I know the answer.
Granted I don't like some of Mitchells zeal after plays but that's who he is. And as critical I was of him he is playing quite well.
I'm sure behind closed doors that the Coach said a few words. He is not fond of penalties and they had quite a few against the bungles.

Being soft has nothing to do with celebrating excessively or jawing after the whistle.I don't remember Polamalu ever getting a 15 yard penalty for celebrating- though he did manhandle some players after the whistle.

I do remember Dick Lebeau LIVID at Anthony Smith for taunting after an interception.

That is what I thought of after Mitchell jumped up on the bench for fielding a deep interception that was basically a punt.

Mitchell is way better than last year.
