His suggestion sounds pretty good to me

Makes sense for Pitt to have its own stadium in walking distance.

And apparently the Rooneys dont have the best ground crew working on keeping the field playable, I’m sure having a second team beat it up doesn’t help them maintain it.

This has been an issue for years.. thought they had it fixed but its back.

The old Pitt stadium was great… old, but a good home field advantage. Tearing down a football stadium for a basketball arena..smh.

and now the basketball program is booty.

Rooney’s used public funding not because they are frugal but out of the kindness of their heart.

At least it is a really well-designed basketball arena, a massive upgrade over Fitzgerald Field House.

Between this and the poor grades the Rooneys regularly receive, I may owe that board member from long ago an apology about the duct tape on the weight room equipment.

If NFL owners want stadiums that only their teams get to use, then NFL owners should foot 100% of the bill.

IIRC, Heinz was used for more than just he Steelers because more than just the Steelers paid for it.

I don't live in PA, but my state is currently funding close to half the cost of the local team's stadium. And it's complete BS IMO. I don't think I need to be subsidizing an NFL owner.

I believe that every study looking at the economic impact of sports teams (e.g. with and without lockouts) shows that there is no net economic impact. That people just spend the same money differently if the team isn't there.

Also...if the problem is that the field is too dry, the Steelers and Pitt can probably scrounge some money from the couch cushions to water it. Maybe hire a groundskeeper from a local golf course?

The old Carolina Panthers owner refused to let anyone else use the stadium so it sat empty for 44 weeks of the year.

Tepper has opened it up and its used for MLS and they use grass JUST for soccer. Not sure if the football field is synthetic or turf but they use it for concerts now.

But they also used a travel tax to help pay for the upgrades. I think people are happy though because now they get big concerts that used to skip over Charlotte.

This sounds like good use of a building instead of just 8-9 games per year.

Didn't read the whole thread, so maybe this was already pointed out.

Given that the NFL can have two back to back home games within 5 days, presumably a 5 day turnaround isn't unreasonable for a grounds crew. I'm guessing that they've never forced a team to do a Monday to Thursday turn around.

The game we are talking about is Oct 12 (Pitt played on the 11th, but in Florida).

Here are the recent games played at "Heinz" in the last two months by the Steelers and Pitt. Not sure if any HSs were using the field...but I think that's just for championships (if they still do that?).
    1. Steelers preseason Aug 16
    2. Pitt home game Aug 30
    3. Pitt home game Sept 6
    4. Steelers had a home game on Sept 17.
    5. Pit home game Sept 27
    6. Pit home game Oct 4
    7. Steelers game Oct 12 (8 days since previous game)
That's 7 games in two months. On average game every 8.7 days. And it doesn't look like any of these games are all that close together. More than a week since the previous game on that field.

This doesn't appear to be an issue with having too many games on the field before Oct 12. This appears to be an issue with the Steelers / Pitt and how the field is managed.

I should watch this again sometime. Haven't seen it since I was a kid watching with my Dad (on a TV edit...I wonder how much they cut out).

Too dry and yet there is an underground river there with plenty of water.

Saw a blurb on the internet that the movie was originally written as a coming of age story between Noonan and another caddy and the girl but when they got the cast together it morphed into the comedy that it is.

Some time when you are bored Google the university of pittsburgh in the Oakland section of pittsburgh and tell me where they are going to put a stadium

The mistake was tearing down the old Pitt stadium and building something else there

As for Pitt playing at Acrisure stadium their last game there was October 4 there was plenty of time for that field to heal

My guess since they knew they were going to start to replace the field after the game they deliberately did not water it because they didn’t want the extra weight when rolling up the old turf

Old wet turf is very heavy

And unrelated to this Ben is still an idiot JMO

Jeh is correct. Why haven't they maintained it with, here goes, WATER! Its not like they have any rivers near by :hehehe:

The field was dry as a desert. So the ground keepers are the culprits but i'm sure it goes deeper then that. See something say something.

Good that they are replacing it now.

I'm sorry to say that artificial turf that was in Three Rivers got complaints after complaints about the uneven high seems from the base pads ect. It was deemed one of the worst playing surfaces in the NFL. Lambert had to retire from tuff toe and Woodson tore his ACL in which he blamed the surface just a few examples.

This sounds like a reasonably guess to me.

Don't know how long this takes, but I don't get why they wouldn't do this after the Pitt game on the 4th. Then they still have 8 days.

I think the next home game on the field is Pitt on Oct 25. I guess this gives them an extra 5 days.

I guess the real question is why not replace the field before the season starts? Do they replace the field every 2 months (7 games)?
