yes - which is still , I think - dumb.

just move it back, to make it interesting, intriguing.

many teams are still in the playoff hunt, well into November.

Why not move it to the first week of DEC?

it would make trades much more exciting and more movement, for sure.

The later the deadline, the harder it will be to fleece the stupid teams.

Example: the Claypool trade only happened because Da Bears actually believed they were one player away from getting into the playoffs. They'd have never taken that trade a week or 2 later when it would've been obvious even to them that this wasn't happening.

I can see an advantage to this also. Let's say as we near the trade deadline it's become obvious our Steelers weren't going anywhere. In this hypothetical scenario, we're no better than we were in 2023. We know Cam Heyward is in his last year before retirement. I'd be cool with trading him to a top contender for next to nothing in order to give him a chance of retiring with a ring.

Of course that's a hypothetical. In reality, the Khan Artist works his magic and Cam's best shot at a ring is with the Steelers. But man, that would be a stand up move for Cam.

They moved it back to the half way point of the season, that's what the teams wanted.

Half way point would be halftime of game 9
