A lesser known fact is that he actually created the original Mt Rushmore.

    In 1974, as I recall.

I believe that was also the year he returned an interception for a TD, the last time a CB has done so for the Steelers.

LOL! I think he actually created it BEFORE 1974 because they have a huge chase scene on it on North By Northwest. He knew that he was gonna return that interception and went ahead and erected the mountain in honor of the occasion.

The alternative explanation is that North by Northwest was actually filmed inside the imagination of Glen Edwards.

I can not even consider putting the Chief on there. He owned the team from 1933. We did nothing till 1969 when he hired Chuck Noll. The only reason he hired Noll was Joe Paterno turned him down. How would this teams history be different if JoPa said yes?

Its all on Coach Noll. The Chief was just signing the checks!!!!!

    YOI!!! AND DOUBLE YOI!!!

    He FOUNDED THE TEAM!!!!

Without him, to "write the checks", the team DOES NOT EXIST!!!

How could you POSSIBLY not put him at the top of the mountain?!?!

Not to mention the "Family Values", he instilled in the team?
WOW, Myron... I usually get where yer comin from...

But I couldn`t disagree more strongly with you, on this one!!!
   !!!

Hope that was some whiskey(or somethin) talkin!

Hines Ward was the Steelers best all-time receiver in my opinion, for the multitude of attributes that he brought to the team. I also think he was the best pure catching receiver. He wasn't as athletic as Stallworth or Swann, but he was stronger and more powerful.

AB MIGHT eventually turn into the best Steeler receiver all time, but time will tell.

Yes he did found the team Bleed in 1933. And what did the STEELERS accomplish before Noll? NOTHING!! The Chief wanted Joe Pa......He turned him down. The Chief was forced to hire Noll. The STEELERS start winning Super Bowls....I have all the respect in the world for the Chief. However he did not turn his team into a Super Bowl Champion........Coach Noll did!!!!!

Forced? Who forced him? The fact that he wanted Paterno is irrelevant because he did hire Noll. Without the Chief, there is no Noll. Or maybe whoever forced him to hire Noll should get the credit but I don't know that tale :lolol:

Quite possibly it could have been a disaster had he brought along that sicko Sandusky with him. Instead of 4 SB trophies and a early dynasty status the Steelers may be known for having a coach follow players into their showers. Thank goodness Joe Pa turned the Chief down!

I think of Sandusky when I think of Penn St. as well. That's a shame that that school got tarnished by that. I hate it for the players. For the scumbags in upper mgmt that allowed it though I wish they'd all join that monster in the pen. No pun intended.

But he did turn him down and Chief did hire Noll and the rest is history.

Not sure why you insist on living in an alternate universe.

The universe I live in is the one of reality. In the 35 seasons the Chief owned the STEELERS before he was forced to hire Noll the STEELERS were 56-240-18. We had six..Thats "SIX" winning seasons in 35 under Mr. Rooneys ownership before Coach Noll. In his first seven seasons Noll won 55 games one less than the STEELERS won in the previous 35 seasons. Oh and 2 super bowls in that time as well.

So who do you think built the STEELERS that we know today??

He was forced to hire Noll?
You could look at it like this also: Rooney had a great back up plan in Chuck Noll when Paterno declined to take the job. Also had the resolve to keep fighting and turn his franchise around.
Not really sure I can at all understand your argument here. If he doesn't make your Rushmore list fine, but no need to diminish the Chiefs role in Steelers history.

No one can answer that question. Who knows we could have won 6 SuperBowls in the 70/80's with Paterno, or none. Paterno was pretty good in his own right.

The Chief was a gambler. He bought the team with winnings from the track. He wasnt than and never was a football guy. His team was a laughing stock until he hired a man named Noll.

Is Robert Kraft a football guy? How's that working out?
Are most of the NFL owners football guys? No they're business men who hire "football guys" to handle the football aspects of the team.

I think you're going to find that you're in a very small minority with you're logic on this issue.

THANKS for making my point.....It ONLY took Art Rooney 35 years to hire a football guy to coach his team.
