To clarify, these aren't necessarily athletes who were raised in Pittsburgh. These are professional (Not college) athletes/coaches in Pittsburgh. Each Pittsburgh sports team needs to be represented.

    My list (In order)

    1. Dan & Art Rooney Sr
    2. Noll
    3. Mean Joe
    4. Lambert
    5. Clemente
    6. Stargell
    7. Ben
    8. Blount
    9. Franco Harris.
    10 Crosby

What is your top ten Mount Rushmore list?

I don't know much about baseball or College sports but since there is a bridge named after him I would have to put Clemente in. Aside from him the only other non Football icon I'd put in is Mario. He brought 2 cups as a player then saved the franchise when he bought it and brought 3 more cups as the owner and the franchises is flourishing. Obviously after those 2 based on history its gotta be all steelers..and for what they brought to the city of pittsburgh I would have to say Rooney Sr , Noll, Greene, they are the foundation of the franchise. I think Bradshaw and Ben deserve to be there also hate em or love em. QB is the mat important position and when you've got Only 2 QBS that span nearly 4 decades and 6 combined bowls ( 7 appearances) for the most storied Football franchise, how do you not put them in

I’m not a ‘Burgher so I’ll just stick with football too, from 1990 to present (when I became a fan):

    Polamalu
    Ward
    Big Snack
    Heath
Keisel (his beard would be epic carved into a mountainside)

My main criteria was playing the entire career here, followed by impact on the field and then off.

Ironic and Interesting Footnotes on Roy Jefferson:

Roy Jefferson isn’t well-remembered today, but he was one of the top receivers at the start of the Super Bowl era. Jefferson was a second round pick of both the Steelers and Chargers in 1965, back when the leagues held separate drafts. Jefferson chose to sign with Pittsburgh, and in his second season, he led the NFL with a 24.1 yards per reception average. In 1968, Jefferson led the NFL in receiving yards and scored 11 touchdowns, one behind Paul Warfield for the lead. Jefferson matched his production the next year and was a unanimous first-team All-Pro selection. But for Jefferson, personal glory was the only success he would see in Pittsburgh, as the Steelers went just 7-33-2 from ’67 to ’69. Jefferson’s 1969 performance was interesting for another reason. He gained 44% of his team’s receiving yards, and since then, only a few other players have reached that mark.

As Steelers fans know, 1969 was a key year in the franchise’s history. It was Chuck Noll’s first season, and his first draft selection was Joe Greene. After finishing with the league’s worst record in 1969, Pittsburgh won the rights to draft Terry Bradshaw. On the field, Jefferson was the best player in Noll’s first season. But that doesn’t mean Noll and Jefferson got along. The start of the 1970 season was in jeopardy because of a players’ strike. After it was resolved quickly and largely in the owners’ favor, Jefferson publicly expressed his dissatisfaction. Jefferson began flouting Noll’s authority in training camp back in the days when such actions weren’t tolerated. Noll responded by shopping the team’s star player. He got a bite with the Baltimore Colts, who agreed to trade their 1971 fourth round pick and wide receiver Willie Richardson for Jefferson.

Pittsburgh then sent Richardson to Miami for a 1971 fifth round pick. With the 4th round pick Pittsburgh received from Baltimore for Richardson, the Steelers hit gold with Dwight White, a defensive end out of Texas A&M-Commerce who would start for eight seasons in Pittsburgh. White was a two-time Pro Bowler who would contribute to four Super Bowl champions.

I always wear my Clemente shirt on New Years day to honor him. 90% of the wife's family have zero idea who he is.

With no Lemieux there's no hockey in Pittsburgh these days. He's gotta be on everyone's Pittsburgh list.

There are 4 on Mt Rushmore, so you have to have at least one representative from each team. So......

    Lemieux
    Greene
    Clemente
    The Chief

Tough call between Bradshaw and Greene, but the 70s Steelers were more about defense, so Mean Joe it is.

Since Mt Rushmore has only 4, the list should only be 4, mmm? I`ll give it a try based on Steeler (Pitt football) historical importance.

    1. Chuck Noll.
    2. Jock Southerland.
    3. Art Rooney Sr.
    4. Joe Greene

In a bit of a change up, I'll go with 4 Pittsburgh sports legends who each made one memorable play (or game) and each at home to deserve Mt Washington (forget Mt.Rushmore) prominence:

    1. Bill Mazeroski - Pirates - Oct 13, 1960 - hit only 7th game World Series walk off game winning homer vs Yankees (always in running for greatest moment in MLB history)
    2. Franco Harris - Steelers - Dec 23, 1972 - Immaculate Reception vs Raiders (always in running for top NFL play of all time)
    3. Mario Lemieux - Penguins - Dec 31, 1988 - scored 5 goals 5 different ways - full strength, power play, short handed, penalty shot and empty netter vs Devils (voted greatest moment in NHL history)
    4. Jerome Lane (send it in Jerome!) - Pitt BB - Jan 25, 1988 - shattered glass backboard on monster dunk fed to him on a steal by Sean Miller vs Providence ( often in running for college BB greatest moment)
