On the flight home, I drew the lucky card to have a seat next to an overzealous young lad that kept quizzing me on everything NFL. I'd say he had way too much sugar except that I think he was around 25. He was pretty much a Madden NFL type and basically had no allegiance to any team, just fantasy football points. Very disappointing.

Anyway, the Carolina Panthers are going to start a rebuild and are shopping players and there's chatter about McCafferty. I personally would NOT want to do a deal for McCafferty as I am of the opinion that the new regime in Pittsburgh, needs to use all allocated draft picks do some retooling of their own.

However, a McCafferty does have some allure to it, he's a utility type of guy that can do most anything and is laboring on a poor Carolina team. BUT he is also in his 6th season and nowhere the player he was in 2018 and 2019 (Wow, 2019 was a very good year for him!). Even if his value does not command a high price tag, I doubt I would take on his contract this late in his career.

My preference would be to keep an eye on the draft for RB's like Zach Evans or maybe a Sean Tucker. Pittsburgh's ground attack needs a work horse and probably should let Harris and Warren battle for the change of pace guys. When you go into the 4-minute drill, you want a guy that puts the team on his back and gets those 3 to 4 yards a pop and keep your offense ahead of the chains. Harris is supposed to be the feature back, and at times flashed some of that against Tampa, but overall, be it injuries or whatever he has fallen a bit short of expectations. Maybe he changes that in the 2nd half of the season since the steel plate is gone.

On a side note: Scanning the Carolina roster, pickings are slim, very slim. In fact, it's no wonder they stink. I'd much rather stick with draft picks and build on what is in place.

Between the scheme and the poor run blocking, I'm not sure even Barry Sanders could run behind this line. Until that gets fixed, it doesn't matter who is in the backfield.

The last thing the Steelers should be doing right now is trading for a running back. The running game isn't going to get much better until the line and the down-field passing game both improve. McCaffrey has a lot of mileage on him and he is hurt too often. This team has way too many holes to be wasting draft capital on him.

    No doubt.
I was scanning that roster to see if there was anyone worth a trade, a proven player that could be good for us for 2-3 years or maybe longer.
I just could not come up with any sort of scenario. I see why they fired the heck out of that coach and his staff leaders.

I don't know about that. He is a good pass catcher.
But to be honest, that is why I said let those two battle it out.
*I think they would not go in this direction because of Harris being the 24th pick and 2nd season. So, my waxing is just that.. and moot. They do need to get more out of the ground game. Maybe Harris comes back around, maybe Warren comes on?

Its not pretty, Najee did have a couple of nice runs a couple times but its just off.

I just hate the Run Play call, Run Play call, Pass play call. Matt Canada does too much of it.

Just seems like every time we run the defense knows we are running it and it goes nowhere too often.

I think you could just as easily say

However, a Najee Harris does have some allure to it, he's a utility type of guy that can do most anything and is laboring on a poor Pittsburgh team

I saw a rumor the other day on an actual NFL coverage site and it made me furious.... it was McCaffrey for Najee, a 1st and a 3rd.....GFY with that garbage

There if only 2 or 3 guys from Carolina I would want and they are all young guys I'm sure they want to build around

Ikem Ekwonu... multiple picks and players... you guys want another QB?

    Jacee Horn. A high pick

    CJ Henderson. Mid round conditional

    Brady Christianson...a 3rd

Tommy Tremble. Don't need him, but I really like him... maybe a 4th

Thats ptetty much it for me

Do you think our OL coach could speak with our OC to figure
Out what strengths and likes our OL may be good
At and possibly start out with about a half dozen plays an build from there?

Pat and AJ were covering the Anderson trade yesterday and said they heard Carolina wanted a 1 and 2 next year for McCaffrey and that's the minimum starting point not to mention his current deal is quite large. Question becomes does the current slate of mega deals after big trades make GM's gun shy now.

No way in hell he is worth all that. He played a 10 games in 2020 and 2021 combined due to injuries. I certainly don't see the Steelers being in the market for him, especially not at that price.

exactly - which is why I did not want Harris in the first place. Should have been 2 seasons of heavy OLINE drafts. or BIG FA signings. We went moderate. Time will tell if it pans out. Results are 'not good enough', as of now.

step by step , Dumlin - BUILD the line, find a RB later

Now nothing is 100%...., but I can almost always(I'd say 83% of the time) tell when it's run , or pass this year, and that is not very good if I can pick it out.
Matter of fact I think just to prove Myself wrong, and for fun... next game .....I will grade Myself on it on paper just to see.....Hell ....I maybe full of $hit.
    I guarantee it wouldn't be the 1st time.

There are others with headphones on that could make a difference if they wanted to. Canada is doing what his boss and Flores have helped game plan which is why he said he isn't making changes for the sake of change. Hell, Tomlin may be the one actually calling the plays at this point due to all the pressure on play calling. Who knows after what RF said about, he never made defensive calls.

Apparently Steel Hog doesn't know about green font sarcasm. Either that or he wants us to actually bring LeVeon Bell back.

There's a thread on McCaffrey already in the general NFL forum, no the Steelers shouldn't be interested in him.

No, Canada does suck but he is getting help and what he is calling others have input, at least in game planning per the article I gave as my source. My point is it seems most are blaming Canada on the questionable offensive scheme when apparently there are others that should be blamed as well.
