I've seen the future. We missed on Dan Marino. Thought Pickett would make up for it but our next franchise QB is Eli Holstein I think he's only a Freshman so we'll wait. Kid got game.

 

It wasn't pretty. Kind of like the Steelers are sometimes with their "bend, don't break" defensive mentality. But Holstein shook off the early pick six to engineer some scoring drives and they did just enough to scratch out a win where they never had before. It's easy to forget that kid is just a freshman and will only continue to improve. I think what surprises some teams is his athleticism when he pulls it down and takes off.

 

Question will be - will Holstein stay in the Burg with ludicrous NIL offers to be had on the left coast or deep south? Remember some kid named Jordan Addison?

 

Yeah, good point and too depressing to consider. I would hope he shows some sort of loyalty, but you could hardly blame him for cashing in.

 

I am cautiously optimistic, Pitt is getting great QB play.
Their defense scares me.Oh well I am going to enjoy as long as I can.
Games only get tougher now.

 

Eli Holstein has been added to the Davey O'Brien Award top 8 list of college QBs. While deserving, it seems somewhat early to be determining finalists for this annual award? Nonetheless, he's in great company so far and is breaking PITT records left and right. Great recruiting of both Holstein (Alabama)and Desmond Reid (Western Carolina). Steelers could use Pitt's new OC Cade Bell. So refreshing after years of dismal O at Pitt. HTP!

Cal should have beat Miami last week.Pitt has not played
any ranked teams yet. Like Steelers their schedule gets more difficult.

Pitt hangs to win 17-15 due to a missed 40 yd FG wide right by Cal near end of game. Not pretty but 6-0 works for now. Cal led #5 Miami by 25 pts last week then chocked. They're not a bad team really. Pitt did what they had to today. HTP!

LoL. I don't have clue how Smu is 25.....they played one rank team , and got beat by them. So Pitt will only play 2 ranked teams all year???

 

This could change week by week but as of last Sundays rankings this is it. Louisville was hovering in top 25 for a while. I worry about Syracuse in 10 days on TNF. They are closest thing to a Pitt rival after WVU.

 

I can't help thinking about Sicily everytime I hear Syracuse , and the battle with Rome, and Greece. Sorry my mind is wandering.

Very luckily. That is the worst game Holstein has played this year, he has to be better than that. He has to be atleast
as good as he had been the first 5 games. Pitt can't compete without him being on.

 

Pitt used to lose these games. I'm telling ya, there's something about this Pitt team.

Every top team needs their QB to play well to compete. Not every team can win like Pitt just did when the QB has a bad game.

 

I have watched and supported Pitt for over 55 years, I
want them to be the best they can be I am also a realist.

 

OSU, Georgia,Bama, Texas have so much superior roster
they can get by, Pitt does not have 4 and 5 star rosters to compete.

 

OSU just lost 32-31. Howard went 28/35, 326 yds, 2 TDs no INTs. If their QB has a bad game, they get blown out.
Alabama just won 27-25. QB went 23/31, 238 yds, 2 TDS, 1 INTs. Almost lost to SC. Their QB has a bad game and they lose.
Texas is blowing people out. They can win with a bad QB game.
Georgia beat a 1-4 Mississippi State 41-31. Georgia QB went 36/48, 459 yds, 3 TDs, 2 INTs. GA QB has a game like Holstein (14/28, 133 yds, 0 TDs, 2 INTs), they lose that game.
