They signed Rowdy Tellez a 1st baseman. Tellez hit for a .223/.294/.396 with an 83 wRC+ ugh

A power hitter with great defense. It could be a whole lot worse

I guess so. But just once I'd like for them to step up and get a couple good free agents

Hey we got Cutch for 5 million. Can't see how he will be anything special at his age but fans love him so Nutbag will use him to sell seats.

I'm with you. Arizona went to WS with around a 100,000 million payroll. Knocked off those 200,000+ million teams.:applaud: Bucs picked up a few pitchers. One has a WS ring from last year he can show the guys to inspire them;)

I actually had that on a DVD along with 1979. No longer own them. I have the broadcast of the 60's win over the Yankees. Last time I listened was Jan. 1st on Roberto Clemente 50th anniversary of his death.

When I had Comcast, I had the '60 game 7 on the DVR. I forgot all about it. When I switched to FIOS, I lost it. The one thing that struck me was how much more enjoyable baseball was to watch back then. Both '71 starters, Mike Cuellar for the Orioles and Blass for Pittsburgh worked fast. They didn't wave off many pitches. Both teams were so sound fundamentally. Crisp, precise infield play. And legends on both sides. Frank Robinson, Brook Robinson, Roberto Clemente and Willie Stargell.

Saw that and said WTF???????? At $10.5 million for a 36 year old??? This is 1/2 million more than ther highest paid player Reynolds and more than Bednar/Keller combined. Does this mean goodbye David Bednar? I've always hated Chapman when he was a Red and more for intentionally hitting Cutch in the back several years ago. I could see if this was for a DH or 1st baseman or starter veteran pitcher but this is so bizarre in so many ways. Speechless.

I’m ok with the signing. At least the Bucco’s are trying to be competitive at the back end of games. Still expect them to be bottom dwellers though cause there is no salary cap and they can’t compete in the market anyways.

The real irony here is that former Bucco Clay Holmes bumped Chapman from the Yankees roster and has gone on to be a very good closer. Haven't done the analytics to see how many close games or late blown games the Pirates experienced this last year but keeping games close while ahead is why you'd need all the late inning help you can get. I remember them not using Bednar for like 10 days because they were out of so many games at that stage and they needed mop up duty, not closers.
