lots of good LB'ers this year. molls, ogletree, minter, gooden, porter, teo, riddick, ansah to name a few. elam is still my first guy to sew up a playmaker at safety. LB is pretty deep this year and we could use a couple. it's a good year to need one.

Hack, been reading about your boy Amerson... I think he's definitely there for our 2nd round pick and MAYBE our 3rd. Especially because I don't think he'll perform particularly well at the combine.

I agree....I think he will test well in everything but "the corner" exercises....he will be high in his back pedal...they will say his hips are stiff....they say it every year about anyone taller than 6'1" And I guess he runs a 40 in the 4.5 to 4.9 range....all I know is the boy has a nose for the ball and the hands to take it away.

understand where you're coming from. sounds a lot like ike's body size but not as fast, but speed can be taught. i know our future at corner is looking brighter than our future at safety but imagine hypothetically we have amerson. buddies up with ike, vet, same body type, same position, trains annually with one of the nations premier speed trainers. imagine a version of ike in his prime that catches all those interceptions.

maybe developed would be a better choice of words, but yes it is possible. i don't expect he is particularly slow now. there is a reason these guys don't return to school, opting to improve their 40 times before the combine.

yes they are taught starting from a standing start for a 40 yd. dash. explosion out of the gates mostly. i'm talking flat out get on your horse game speed when turning and running with a mike wallace. he won't be at ike taylors speed no matter how much speed coaching he gets. the more important times for corners is the first 10 and 20 yd. times. the quickness to a spot times. ike is wallace fast or very close. amerson is not in that ball park. he's closer to lewis fast.

I don't think he is even Lewis fast...I think he is Cortez Allen fast.....Lewis isn't far from Ike....he has turned and run with Mike Wallace his entire life....(no he is not Wallace fast)

lewis is a 4.47. allen a 4.50. brown 4.51. ike at that age 4.35. amerson is closer to 4.55-4.60. vandyke is a 4.25. that's wallace speed. sanders is a 4.40. AB is a 4.50. they all can run. quickness is a different animal amongst them.

    I agree mac..

I value anticipation, football IQ, short-area quickness and ball skills in a DB far more than a 40 timed event. Football speed is what I'd be targeting and a guy with the attributes that I listed above will get from point A to point B just as quickly, if not faster, than a speedster. Having said that, he obviously can't run a 4.65+ or he becomes a liability.

if we want more turnovers, we have to go after guys that create them. phillip thomas SS,elam SS, kaseem green OLB, jamie collins OLB,devonte holloman SS/ILB,rambo FS,amerson CB. these guys create alot of TO's. a couple of any of these guys would have to help that margin.

Out of that group the player I like the best and has the most value due to his pre-draft ranking of the late 2nd to late 3rd round is Bacarri Rambo. He's had some marijuana issues (possession) I believe. If that's going to scare you off of a 21 year old you're talent pool has just shrunk considerably. It's risk vs. reward. Rambo has all the skills to be a GREAT pro, the question is how important is football to him? If my interview with him came back positive I'd be willing to select him in the 2nd.

    absolute
    i forgot to throw
    casey barth in the 7th

although i don't feel he has the strength like his brother connor in Tampa his accuracy is very good

Cooper can play up and down the line and that is a must for our Steelers it seems

Bernard is very versatile too as a running back and return game

we don't have to have all of them but i do hope we get one , i feel any of them would be 1st year impact barring injury of course

of course next year i'll be pimping Bryn Renner who will be in the Heisman coversation by years end which means he won't be under the radar and available to us
SEEING HOW WE WILL picking 32ND!!

truthfully, phillip thomas had one heck of a year at safety. 8 picks,4 forced fumbles, 12 tackles for loss, 4 sacks. i do like rambo though.

I'm not sure about Manti Te'Owned. How much of him was media hope and hype for the Golden Domers?

i think he's a very good player, just not that high in the draft. he will be a steady player, not a game dominator. just like hightower last year. i was torn a new one saying he was going to be average. he was this year. te'o has 7 picks this year but like they mentioned during the game, he was in the right place at the right time for most of them. tip balls that happened to land in his arms, it wasen't from flat out good coverage. he'll be good in the right place though.

I think he only caught one INT when it wasn't deflected or tipped. Still, it's usually no accident that a player is in position to make a play on the ball. The only thing that the BCS championship game told me is that I wouldn't trade up to get him, I'd still take him at 17 though.

not according to the announcers of the BCS championship game. they said most of those 7 picks. i don't know, i didn't watch every game of ND this year. i just don't think he will be a game changer at the next level. he'll be a good lunchpail LB. a larry foote. foote has played a long NFL career without being a game changer. i think te'o is closer to that then ray lewis.

Just youtubed him from this year. They show his first six interceptions, and three were tipped, three were clean. I seem to remember the 7th one being just a good case of reading the QB and cutting off the receiver.
And I agree. I was hoping he would have a bad game so that he might fall within our range. But that game was so one-sided I'm not positive that the Steelers should draft him there, and probably won't be too surprised or upset when the Jets pick him. I will be paying close attention to Ogletree and Minter at the combine, along with Ansah, Jordan, and any other speed rushing OLB prospect. And I wouldn't be heartbroken with Womack, either.

This post is what I have been saying for a while. I watched him all season and he is very over hyped by the media.
We should put the Teo at 17 talk to rest.

The masses voice gets us in trouble. Just like the masses that insisted the Steelers had to re sign Willie Parker. Once we did, we were screwed and the masses got amnesia when they were called out for being chicken little. I can call him Willie again since he retired and give him credit for his service, but I named him a pornstar name on another sight because he went down easily.

i think he caught at least two outright. i know one was a tipped/bobbled from his own pass breakup, another was a traditional tip drill type. late in the season when notre dame was behind late in the game there were at least 2 and i think three where he dove at ball tipped or dropped near the line of scrimmage that resulted in game winning points. part of the reason for the overhype. incidentally he dropped 15 pounds in the offseason so he could cover better. last year he did not have interceptions, but he did have a more sacks than this year( still only 4). if he landed with us i could picture him bulking up a bit as timmons is our athletic backer and spence could be plugged in for nickel or dime.
