I don’t know why he doesn’t wear knee braces at every practice. You’re only allowed 1 padded practice a week in the NFL. Wearing a knee support could only be beneficial. My thoughts.

Technically this isn't quite right. Teams are allowed 14 padded practices over the entire regular season, 11 of which must be used over the first 11 weeks. But they can split that up and hold zero pads one week, two the next, etc., with the caveat being they cannot hold padded practice for more than three consecutive days.

So Tomlin saying "we going back to pads this week" leads me to believe they at least went without them in the week leading up to the game in Houston.

 

That's a safe assumption; Tomlin is known as a "soft" head coach.

 

You can only have 2 padded practices in the same week 1 time. Every other week is 1 per week.
