So I will never consider myself a great analyst of the game of football, there are much smarter people on this board than me. However, I did want to go back and watch the replay to address the issue of Pickett staring down his receivers.

While it's rather difficult to see exactly where a QB is looking if he's not noticeably moving his head, the case could be made that Pickett was usually sticking with his first read. I don't necessarily see that as a bad thing at least as it pertains to this game. He made the correct reads and most of his throws went to wide open guys. The point was made that DBs will start jumping his throws but not once were any of his throws in danger of being picked.

Most of his throws were timing throws so it stands to reason he goes with the first read. The throw down the seam to Muth looked as though he was staring him down but that was Pickett waiting for Muth to come open, which he did.

One throw that I think dispels this idea of staring down receivers is the td to Johnson that got called back. IMHO, he absolutely holds the safety in the middle of the field with his eyes, before throwing a sweet ball to DJ.

If this really is going to be a problem, I'm confident the coaching staff will address it and Pickett has the work ethic to fix it.

You want 2 see someone staring the Wrs down, and watching the rush. Go watch Trubiskys 1st two preseason games.
Everyone says last night He had 2 run, but 2 of the 3 times He took off He was watching the rush, and had a Wr wide open. The 3rd He had 2 run...I agree. He still staring His target down, and He's been in the league awhile.
    So give Pickett sometime...

I do think one of the times Trubisky escaped the pocket, he could have set his feet and hit DJ. He had a step on his guy. Another time he did hold on to the ball a little too long. I know you won't agree but with the o-line being in shambles, I just don't see a way they can keep Rudolph upright long enough to go down field, which is his string suit.

Twice He had open guys. I'm only going by what I seen on My 3rd now rewatch.
Let Me ask You a question. How many TD passes have we seen from Trubisky....that wasn't more open than even college? Now compare that 2 the other Qbs on the team.
Now I don't know about You , but I don't think We will have many guys that wide open in the regular season.
We can say well He was against the ones....Yes , but He also had the ones.
Everyone else was against the twos , or threes, but they were also running with the twos, and threes.

To be honest, I'm not clamoring for either one to start over Pickett. The kid will most certainly have some growing pains but I don't see enough from Rudolph or Trubs to warrant taking a year of experience away from Pickett. He's already neck and neck with those two which tells me his ceiling is higher than either one. IMHO, the only reason you don't start Pickett week one is because you want to see if there's any chance in hell the o-line starts to gel even a little. I have doubts about that happening.

If Pickett really is staring down his receivers in the premise that some are making it out to be, Pickett's stat line should look much worse. Given the fact that he has yet to show case such a trait in the extreme sense, I will state that it is common for young QBs to do so; prodigious or not. All that said, Pickett has not played like many other Rookie QBs in Preseason Action that I have seen since 2010; sharp, in command, precise and accurate....

.... and that list includes the likes of Patrick Mahomes, Lamar Jackson, DeShaun Watson, Kyler Murray, Josh Allen, Justin Fields, Mac Jones and even Trevor Lawrence (yep.. I just said that).

Lawrence made some good throws but he also missed on some that a guy of his pedigree should have made.

I was referring to his Rookie debut in the Preseason good sir! :hi:

Regarding those missed throws, I would not worry too much if I were a Jaguars fan. Trevor will be fine. While I am not a Doug Pederson fan, he is light years greater than... whatever the hell Urban Meyer was.

Actually...Mitch played with the ones, and against the ones...

Pickett played with the ones, and against the twos...

Jags first string D is very talented, and they dominated us js

Pickett has a lot of learning to do. I just hope if he does get the nod at some point in the season he learns to fall the hell down and not take to many big hits. I believe he could be our QB for many years.
