Pickett appears to be losing ground to even win the QB2 job with the Eagles.

I defended Pickett as much as anyone on the board. But I'll certainly take our QB situation now over last years'.

While I liked Kenny Pickett coming out of Pitt and it made a great story being drafted by the Steelers, I wasn't 100% on board when he was drafted. I felt we could have stuck with Trubisky and Rudolph for a rebuild year as much as everyone wanted to avoid that term. I felt we would have been best to build the O-Line through the draft before drafting a QB. This may have led to Kenny's downfall and concussions, but I honestly don't know if he would have been in a better situation elsewhere.

LOL... I guess this theory of Pickett losing ground for the #2 QB spot went flying out the window with Preseason Week 1. Say all the bad things you want to about Kenny Pickett, but the dude knows how to play in Preseason. :)

Kenny was the best QB on the field for the Eagles vs Raves game in Preseason.

Wow, Tanner McKee really laid an egg in this preseason game and I had high hopes for McKee being able to compete for the #2 spot.

He just took 4 sacks against the Patriots and McKee looks better so far.

Kenny didn't look very good. Whether it was his line or the Pats defense or, he's just mediocre. I had high hopes for him on the Steelers. Oh, well.

11-13 for 67 yards yesterday for Kenny....The other was much better with 15-19 for 140 yards.Backup QB competition in Philly?

Couldn't re-find the Tweet someone posted, but it basically said:

"If you lived in PGH the last 2 years and expected Kenny Pickett to become a top QB, you may be entitled to compensation"

I saw KP his whole time at Pitt, other than his last year, he didn't look like much. I didn't have high expectations when they drafted him. I didn't see an elite QB, I thought his ceiling might be Andy Dalton/Derek Carr level. A guy who could be a competent mid level starting QB, and have the occasional good year. He'd kill to be that now. At this point, he looks like a career backup at best.

He's contracted to Philly for this year and next, and unless Hurts get hurt, he'll never see the field. So in 2026, he'll hit the market as a 28 yr old QB that hasn't played much or shown much success. That's compete for a 3rd string roster spot territory. Maybe he'll have a late career bloom, but I'm not betting on it.

I'd enjoy the season much better if Pickett is forced into the starting QB position. Probably pay for this post if he has to start the Steeler game.

Didn't watch it but Eagle fans I know are asking me to take Pickett back. I assume he sucked it.

My initial reaction to his progress in Philly is someone relieved only because I didn't want him to be the one that got away and how the Steelers screwed him up. Now with that admission out of the way, I really do feel bad for the guy. I don't want him to be a failure, but I'm confident he won't be winning Super Bowl MVPs any time soon. I can't imagine getting the opportunity to go to the team you rooted for as a child and now may soon be run out of town. That is heartbreaking in itself.

Watching the game Eagles game against the Pats and I really don't see anything different in his play. There is no argument that Matt Canada did nothing to help his career progress but watching this game you would almost think Canada was calling the plays for him. He still looks at his first read then escapes the pocket before necessary. His coaches really need to work with him on his spin move out of the pocket as it always seems to lead to a sack (or injury like it did in Pittsburgh). He did this spin move out of the pocket to throw the game winning TD to Najee against Baltimore two years ago and he now thinks it is his magic move.

Agree. But, I will never have a problem with the Steelers using their 1st round pick on Kenny Pickett in 2022. I was so afraid that the Steelers were going down the San Fran 49ers road and were about to give up 3 First round picks to move up and get Kenny, or Mailk that year. During the draft I was holding my breath with every pick in the 1st round praying that I was not going to hear.... "We have a trade... The Pittsburgh Steelers are now on the clock" :)

Yeah, the Steelers 1st round pick only played 2 years with the Steelers.

But, the 49ers 1st, 1st, 3rd, and 1st round pick only lasted 2 full years with the 49ers too. :)
    • 2021 first-round pick (No. 12 overall)
    • 2022 first-round pick (No. 29 overall)
    • 2022 third-round pick (No. 101 overall)
    • 2023 first-round pick (No. 29 overall)

Crazy to see what could have been, with Malik and Mason battling it out of for #2 role in Tennesse.

It would not been crazy if it would been the right one....I mean,I don't think the chiefs regrets to pay the big price to trade up for Mahomes back in the 2017 draft!.....But it hurt big time when you take the wrong one!

I often thought that Pickett was the first choice, but he was projected to be off the board in the top ten picks. I believe the Steelers decided to sit tight and see where it would lead. IMO I thought once Pickett was taken off the board the Steelers would have traded up for Malik, but when Pickett kept falling, they realized they may not need to trade up for either. I'm glad we didn't trade up, but it is still disappointing that pick didn't pan out.
