Pickens over DK this week.

Not jumping to take sides.... I think there are valid points all the way around.

But sometimes there is the "disfranchised theory."
Pickens may not have liked the coaching staff
or
maybe he sees the suck at QB, know Rogers is a temporary band aide.

It's obvious he has talent.
Somehow, we've got to stop getting into these drama things, especially with WR's.
If it is the coaching, then it needs to be fixed because we are not maximizing our draft picks.
If it is the player, why can't we screen that better? Or, can we actually work with them as in this case Dallas has.

I can't really find a way to bottle this Pickens situation.
It's a bit of stretch to say he was such a big pain, he was kind of quiet his first year and made some crazy catches.
Pickens did tick people off, especially when the relationship was broken.
On the surface, it looked like he wasn't buying into the system and was just going through the motions. In Dallas it looks like he has full buy in.
It's swimming in the waters that is the NFL I guess.
I am glad he's gone too...
We currently have everyone not named Metcalf giving 100% with less talent, that's probably best for us. Metcalf is in another gear.

And I kick Omar around like he's a stepchild for a reason. You trade a talent like that and even though it was tarnished, you better make some effort to support the big trade you did. Omar has failed in that aspect.

 

What makes you think Pickens would stop acting like a baby if he was still with the Steelers this year and actually play hard?

For all you and I know, based on the baby-ness level of Pickens, Pickens would be arguing with DK in the locker room cause Pickens got jealous of DK, and WR would be even more of a weakness this year.

Like any spoiled teenager, the best way for them to grow up is to kick them out of the house.

 

My issue is with the failure to replace him and the limited return in the trade. I wouldn't be surprised to see a replacement cost them at least that third-rounder.

 

So, then as Jeh said, getting rid of the diseased player is orthogonal to replacing with equivalent non-diseased player.

In an ideal world, all replacements are equal and balance is maintained. But that may not happen in real world, and it still makes sense to get rid of the diseased player.

 

Nothing personal, I just don't understand a comment that is in its entirety "I have no idea why people are posting on this". Then why are you? Its Steeler related and Steeler relevant. If there was anything of value added, sure. But it was just a weird thing to post when nothing is added outside of showing disdain for the content of the thread.

I've personally said many times that I understand why he was traded. I hate the return and I hate the fact that our WR corps is so thin that when CALVIN AUSTIN is out our WR corps gets a single reception in an entire game of football. Not good. I can only fathom what would happen if we had to go through a stretch where DK is injured (and pray it doesn't happen). We can breathe easier if we make a trade for a relevant WR before the deadline, but as it stands now, it is a definite concern. Yesterday's game just made it so clear how devoid of talent we are at the WR position outside of DK and Austin (and Austin is a low end WR2). It made the comments made about Pickens relevant. Particularly so with Pickens playing so well in Dallas.

 

Not trading him at all would've offered virtually the same return as our trade did. It doesn't matter what else was offered when a comp pick would be a 3rd round pick and we traded him for a slightly better 3rd round pick.

 

Its a fair argument. If Pickens gets hurt or has a crazy meltdown then we don't get that 3rd round pick. Though if he just plays football and is healthy/somewhat in check then we would have. I get that there is other FA stuff involved too, but the likelihood was very high.

Even if it was a 4th, like one round? For that player? If we were deeper at WR (or had a better plan in the preseason) then I can buy it. I just didn't like the trade because it was a good player, low value, and our WR room behind him was poor. Not a lot to like about it.
