Did Pickens run the wrong route on the next to last play? Wilson is getting all the blame for missing him and he being wide open, but the ball was thrown to the sideline where Pickens was headed, and which makes sense to get out of bounds, but then Pickens breaks a bit inside. Maybe a bad throw, but also maybe some bad communication. Tough to know.

Don’t know but Pickens had a bad game, so did Wilson.

I've only been watching football for 70 years or so, but I cannot recall a worse performance by a #1 receiver than the mess Pickens produced last night. I know some receivers have had horrific games, but I'm talking about a #1. Granted, Wilson was horrible, but Pickens couldn't catch a cold.

Yes Pickens ran the wrong route. That throw was designed to be thrown to the sideline away from the CB and the safety in the middle of the field. They been throwing it like that all season long.

The eyes don’t lie - either on purpose, ran the wrong route, or didn’t have his head in the game.

Any of the above have been issues with Pickens during his tenure with the Steelers.

Just watched the all 22 for that play. Looks like Wilson threw the ball right when Pickens cut inside. No idea if Pickens was supposed to do that and Wilson missed him, or Wilson was expecting him to continue the sideline. SNAFU all around on that last drive.

I think it was pickens fault too. All those previous moon balls to pickens were to the sideline where only pickens could get it. Why did he break to the inside? I guess his head indeed wasnt into the game.

Another question is why were these guys unprepared for a key game like this? Ultimately it falls on the head coach.

I know its popular in some circles to bash Wilson, but i think there were alot of things going wrong outside of Russ’s control.

I still have no idea why Russ didn't throw the ball out of bounds on that last series.

AND THEN... Don't forget, it wasn't until Muth had his huge drop that ended the Steelers hopes of letting Boswell kick a 50+ yard FG to win the game. No idea how Muth misses such an easy catch on a perfectly thrown ball by Russ.

How come Muth gets no blame? The ball was on the money. Steelers go down and spike it and atleast Boz get's a chance at LONG FG.

Because people want to believe that Pickens is a bad guy.

Fans are going to get pickens to go play somewhere else and watch the media stop lying about him and then pittsburgh fans will be crying.

It's an embarrassment how bad our fans are to believing the media

Maybe just maybe Pickens can't play in the cold.Remember what he said about the Browns snow game.
If you can't play in the cold Steel City not the place for you

Don't you know? Its all on Wilson.

Not Pickens the Great 3 drops, not Dan "The Turnstile" Moore, pitchouts to Najee, Arthur "The Offensive Coordinator Puppet" Smith who had marching orders from Tomlin to keep it ultra conservative because he is can outsmart the bungles, even allowing Patterson to touch the ball, the Offensive Line, minimal separation from the receiving core, a gimme drop from Van "Down by the River" Johnson.

Not giving a pass to Wilson he had his moments as well but common he threw for 414 yards and 3 TD's in their first match. Stupid game plan and had 10 days to execute.

Because Muth was about the only player to show up for the game. 8 rec, 85 yards and a score.

That pass wasn’t an easy catch by any means, it was a laser right on him coming out of his break. Probably should have been caught but Muth is far down the list of reasons they lost.

I think too many want to focus on Russ's poor play on that last drive. But yeah, this.

Even if Muth catches it I think time expires. At the snap of the ball I think the clock was 20 seconds. It would have been close.

There was too much mustard on the ball to give Muth a decent shot of catching it.

Wilson would have been JUST FINE if the wr's and TE's MADE SOME PLAYS

come on man - I know Fields was your guy from day 1, but Wilson is decent - his OLINE SUCKS, he has NO RUN SUPPORT and SMITH SUCKS TOO

no, it is not far down the list.

When you look at why and when teams lose, you don't go back to a play in the 1st or 2nd Q,

you look at when the chips are on the table - who MAKES the play and WHO DOES NOT. Muth and Pickens failed us in the 4th Q. many games hang in the balance of a play or 2 that was or was not made late in the 4th Q.

    it was just PURE SUCK

I'm on board with saying Wilson shares a lot of blame for that disaster Saturday night. But aside from the apparent incorrect route running on that play, what makes anyone think he would've held onto it had he been in the right position? Russ made that exact throw to him earlier in the game, and Pickens flat out dropped it. Wilson was not watching where Pickens was headed, he assumed he was on a streak down the sideline and threw the ball where he "should" have been. And that's all on him?
