This is when i like Tomlin. Because he's going to straighten it out. And if not, then he's gone next year.

What? Since when does straighten stuff like this out? He lets guys do whatever they want until it blows up in the media, then he tries to address it.

i think the whole nfl has changed the old team concept to an extent. free agency has garnered a lot less for their whole career type players on one team than it used too. they have created a me first situation. it used to be players stayed with the team that drafted them for most of their careers. brought them along slowly and built them into starters. it's not like that anymore. money and accolades seems to drive the players now.

You’re kidding right? By a lot of accounts. The Antonio Brown thing had gone on for years before something was done about it finally. The fact that these situations even get to the point where us fans even know about it tells you that Tomlin doesn’t have anything under control.

Slow down there Killer. Let’s see how he responds before we trade him which we can’t do until the end of the season anyway.

Really? He kept AB in line for 9 years.

So AB was on the team for 9 years and didn’t have issues until the end. So the 8.5 of the 9 years do not count?

Also, don’t pretend for 1 second Cowher didn’t have issues with his players. He was just lucky that there was no social media or 24 hour sports media crawling up his ass.

AB had a lot of problems that we found out about later.
I’m sure most coaches have problems with these players. But to act like Tomlin is good at managing this stuff is silly.

Far from it. He enabled AB by not cracking down earlier. There were tons of issues that have come to light. AB was allowed to get away with it all until he forced their hand by demanding a trade. At no point was he ever held accountable.

I think we need to see this play out and then assess how Tomlin handled it. We really have no idea what Tomlin did or didn't say to him, and since this just happened a couple days ago we won't know how his attitude changes going forward. I'd like to think that just because Pickens is showing some tendencies, it doesn't mean he has to follow the path of a guy like AB. I believe we all get a little concerned when we see behavior like this because we saw a player implode and drag his team down because of it.

This is a different situation with a different young player. It doesn't necessarily mean the story is going to end the same way.

Let's see if the kid and Tomlin can pull it together. Hoping for a positive outcome.

I’ve slept on it and calmed down a little. If he doesn’t start behaving, I think we should still trade him after the season but only if we get a first. Pickens needs to get his crap together real soon and start demonstrating that he knows how to be a good teammate.

we want passion in our players. maybe not this type though. we want players to hand the ref the ball after a TD and go to the sidelines like he's been there before. he did even though he didn't score it. i personally hate that when they make a play they have to all run down to the other end zone and pose. the kid showed frustration about his role. we have all shown frustration this year at the offense. could he handle it better? sure but demanding we dump this kid is not the knee jerk reaction we need right now. his upside to this team outweighs his immaturity by leaps and bounds. it's a wait and see situation. we don't need to appease him but we should be using his talent. he probably has never seen this type of struggles from an offense. he played for the national champs. he's 22. he has a growing to do. he has passion for what he does. i don't condone his behavior but he does have some concerns of usage for what he could bring.

If Pickens grows a blonde mustache we know we've reached the point of no return lmao.

The standard of measuring the devolution of maturation for the Steelers:read:

I don’t see any way that Pickens would fetch a first round draft pick. Just my opinion.
The thing that sucks about these type of situations is that these players passion, good or bad is what drives them to be as good as they are. If you start neutering that I can see were could have effects on his production.
A selfish trait like Pickens seems to have it’s not something that’s easily fixed. You’re not gonna just have a talk with him or flip a switch and everything‘s gonna be all right.

it hasn’t been easy, but I’ve learned to not get myself attached to these players, until they’ve been with the team past their first contract, and have proven their loyalty to the team and the fans alike.

I deafly wanna give it the benefit of the doubt and see how it plays out. Tomlin’s track record doesn’t necessarily put my mind at ease though. Although I’m sure it’s pretty similar with most coaches and players around the league.

My thought is exactly the opposite

The fact that Tomlin gets production out of people like AB for years and no one knows it is a problem because he has it under control

It’s like a nuclear reactor it can exploded at any moment but if controlled properly it can light up a city

No better advice for Pickens than from none other than Hines Ward. As the all-time leading Steelers WR, he was the most team first and unselfish player you could ever want on your roster. While Hines is proud of his accomplishments as a receiver, he was just as proud of the blocks that led to great runs by Bettis, Willie Parker, Kordell and get this,... Tommy Maddox. Speaking of Tommy Maddox, I'm sure everyone knows the story of Hines taking and end-around and laughing as they were running down the field watching Maddox out in front blocking for him. Maddox asked: "Were you laughing at me?" Hines told him it was one of the funniest things he'd seen. That just shows a great Steeler receiver who just enjoyed the game loved his teammates. Something Pickens needs to show a little more of.
