No they could not have kept him. It was exactly because of the covid stuff (among other things) during a time when his team, and the whole nation was under stress of covid...they had no choice as he would have been a cancer in the locker room. I am not excusing the immaturity and stupidness of his actions, but really besides being selfish his actions were pretty mild compared to some other players who have been given a 2nd chance.

No illusions of grandeur for him, but if he comes to this team humble, improves his work ethic, and learns how to be a pro he will likely be accepted in the clubhouse, that's what 2nd chances are for. The talent will be evaluated as well as his conduct, he is not going to given special treatment like someone who have been given a high pick and millions in investment.

No, likely rookie min if he makes the team, unless there were specific things in writing. I have no idea if specific things can or are put in futures contracts.

just saying when a franchise cuts a very highly drafted QB who played terrible that soon there is usually a reason. This reeks of Tomlin being blind and picking up a problem child just cause he liked what he saw in college. I mean this kid was benched and benched again and cut

Um the kid was under contract they could have held onto him and traded him for something. Its not just rare but extremely rare that any team cuts a 1st round QB in their second year. that usually means the talent isn't there or a complete head case. Either way it says one thing. That the player is not worth the hassle. Maybe the getting cut woke him up a little maybe it didn't that will only fix the work ethic. Most people say his game simply did not make the transition from college to pro (this happens alot) mixed with immaturity, poor work ethic and a very BAD attitude. Point is nobody else wanted him for trade, nobody else tried to sign him and here we are with Tomlin chasing another one of his College prospects he fell in love with. It just doesnt bode well.

I would prefer that we bring in players without known issues. not projects to fix with very long odds. and we certainly dont need any more character issues after some of the things we have been thru lately on this team.

Assuming he is getting the 1-year min contract, why get worked up about this? They can dump him anytime with no drawbacks. Need some camp bodies for the off-season.

Having a party during the stress of Covid ... hmmm, we should ask Joe Haden what that is like?

This organization has gone to hell in a hand basket. We have become that team ... that we, use to joke about. Tomlin, let me see, how you dress this move up. Smh!

Did you forget to take your meds today? Dude, relax. This is a one year no guarantee deal to a kid who has a lot of talent and lots of immaturity. So no body wanted him in a trade, eh You know this how? Impossible because the trading deadline was passed. No one else tries to sigh him...could be true, but usually there is a cooling off period when someone does stupid things

The trade deadline past and the Panthers brought him in for a look, too.

The only thing I found when looking him up about off field stuff was the strip club/covid thing that’s why I was asking if there was something else. That hardly makes him a pariah.

Teams make mistakes all the time, maybe Washington blew it or maybe they were 100% right, I just don’t see the down side to bringing him in, he’s going to be the 3rd string QB, if he doesn’t get cut sooner for not putting in the work. But if he does put in the work, maybe they catch lightening in a bottle.

I really haven`t seen him play in NFL or college .

But taking a flyer on a 1st rd cheap QB, sounds good to me.

Now Haskins gets a chance to get away hometown area and local "friends" .

Fresh start and replace Dobbs . Works for me. Mason /Haskins competition is good.

I don’t know, maybe they offered something, maybe he liked the Steelers better. Teddy Bridgewater is their QB so he wouldn’t be starting there either.

I do think the Mason and Haskins competition will be good. I'm not sold on him yet though. On the other hand, the Giants fans were extremely upset when they passed on him. Just have to wonder if he will fit the mold of a young Ben in terms of his mobility.

What are the cap implications signing him? Is it still his rookie deal?

They fact we move on from Duck and maybe cut Dobbs will that save us some money?

He would be an upgrade as a 3rd qb. He needs to really improve for me to consider him any more than that...

It's not his rookie contract, I think he's signed to a futures contract.
