Because most of the time the Steelers doesn't let it be known who they are interested in, nobody saw that Metcalf trade coming. The Aiyuk situation was the exception to the rule.

If this is real, it could be an indication the Steelers are feeling good about the line. Giving up Washington for an offensive weapon.

I also stated soon thereafter if Kyle even wants to play for Arthur Smith. Not disputing the numbers for they are what they are. That said, maybe a change of scenery would do Kyle good.

Evan Engram was another Tight End who looked like a bust in New York. That all changed in Jacksonville. T.J. Hockenson is another; Minnesota reviving his career. Whos to say Kyle isnt capable?!

Which doesnt make much sense to me in all honestly. Darnell is a freak of nature as far as a blocking Tight End goes. For that matter, Mercedes Lewis is still a good TE because of his blocking. Giving up on Darnell Washington because he is still learning the Offensive System is just dumb in my opinion.

Let Washington develop as a Receiving weapon. If the Dolphins want Washington, they'd better pony up with a pick in return. Otherwise, piss off.

Any reliable option would be great. Muth is solid, but not quite the receiver to be relied upon to be the #2 option. We have to have a contingency plan in case Roman Wilson isn't it. Having an inline TE that can split out and play the "big slot" role as well would be a welcome sight for sure. Can't have too many weapons, and we don't quite have enough as it is.

I just don't see them getting rid of D. Washington yet. Of course I could be wrong , but He has progressed every year, and that's with the freaking Qbs that have been playing with him.

So frustrating how they underutilize Washington.

Washington is never going to be a receiving threat. Jonnu had almost 900 yards last season, would take Washington 5 seasons to approach that. He was drafted for blocking and maybe they feel the line has improved enough that they dont need his talents there.

This team has a bunch of question marks after Metcalf, I can see why they’d want another proven weapon.

Part of me wonders if Freiermuth wouldn't be a better option to flip. While Smith is considered a decent blocker in a zone system, neither he or Freiermuth are considered block-strong TEs. Washington is, and capable in a smaller receiving role when needed.

But maybe both Smith and Freiermuth are considered good enough for a zone scheme.

There in lies the massive concern I have.

To assume that all starting five Offensive Lineman will make it through the season unscathed is simply not feasible; doubly so regarding the Offensive Tackles. Behind Broderick and Troy Fautanu is just about as "no man's land" as one is going to get. Having Darnell to block during passing down situations along with a depth OT (should that become a reality) is a better play.

Always better to have a failsafe just in case anything goes wrong. Not every season is gonna be like 2022 to 2023 in which all five starting Offensive Lineman play either all of the season or nearly all of it (Dan Moore was sidelined one game in 2023 if I recall).

A key metric for TEs is their first down receiving rate. Muth and Washington were far below the line at <50%. J Smith was 60+%. The top TE was Hockenson at 70+%.

The catch that Muth failed to get a 1st down against the Ravens was exactly why he isn't in the top tier of TEs. Couldn't turn his body and gain one yard?!

Coming from a Miami beat writer, probably no truth to it anyway. I’m sure Smith would like to have him but at what cost. Going to take draft picks or Washington plus he wants to get paid.

This time of year who knows if half of this stuff is real. Still, that Schefter was willing to put some air behind it gets it in the ballpark of legitimacy (though whether it's closer to front row or the Uecker seats is anyone's guess), and gives us something other than @Rollers@Rollers favorite subject to speculate about.

There are some obvious reasons to question this one right out of the gate, most notably the TE rooms for each team. Miami doesn't really have anybody behind Smith, while we seem fine. But I read something about how Miami went to a shorter, screen-heavy passing attack last year, which is unusual for McDaniels' offense (their AY/A did see a significant drop), and shopping Smith (who benefitted most from the change) could be a signal they plan to return to the vertical game once again. Obviously, Smith's history with Jonnu could be the reason we're sniffing around despite not having a need at the position.

So who knows, but if nothing else their interest would suggest Khan and Co aren't done adding to the offense, which is something that earns my full support.
