I would argue they quit on him first. They encouraged or let him have surgery on his ankle last season to rush his recovery, then never let him play again. The smart thing to do would have been to sit Pickett down and tell him he's not going anywhere, but he should shut up, learn, and he will get another shot. They chose to give up on him instead.
