There are several 3-4 DEs making more than that.

 

that's always a possibility, but if we don't have it he won't get it. when he starts putting up JJ types of numbers he can demand that type of money. the league mandates the option money now which is out of our hands on the option year. that's more just for us to keep him and the ability to negotiate while still having him for a year to do it with. with a contract signed we can move money to other years for his new contract.

 

Obviously he won't get JJ Watt money ... but there are several other 3-4 DEs that will be making as much or more than the option amount.

 

that can be said for a lot of positions and other players though, here and on other teams.
