And I'm not arguing with you, so, please let that be noted.

When have you ever heard about him being a big film study guy? There isn't any accuracy, but I brought up the SPECULATION that he isn't. I pay attention like lots of us in here do. It's NEVER mentioned about him. Why?

I say he needs this to be part of his reputation because he's not getting younger, or more fit or more healthy injury wise. He needs the cerebral increase to keep him playing at the top of the game and deserve the money he's making.

I'm shocked Im not hearing Ben say it. Isn't he a team captain? As we get older, humans are supposed to mature and realize the things in life they/we need to fortify.

    Never. :)
I agree that he should be giving ALL he can to improving his game. Ben isn't Peyton Manning, I think we all have to accept that, and sure...I wish he would evolve into a more cerebral QB. Who here knows how much game preparation he truly does? <rhetorical question> You hear people say 'Ben doesn't watch film' from time to time, and I think it's mostly just something people throw at the wall hoping it sticks. Of course he watches film, he's an NFL quarterback...it's part of his job. I'll speculate that he is most likely not spending most of his time in the film room like Manning, and possibly Drew Brees. (I say possibly Brees, because I don't know what kind of film study he does personally, though I know he has a very strong work ethic).

 The only QB's I hear about film study are Peyton and Brady, nevvvvver anyone else, so not hearing Bens named mentioned really doesn't mean anything. Peyton and Brady's rep for film study is legendary.

Well, If you watch Ben play compared to the "film junkies" Brees and Manning it is plainly apparent that he is not on the same level in terms of his accuracy, efficiency, or ability to make quick reads. You can either choose to think that he is not on the same level talent wise, or he is not on the same level preparation wise. I for one think that lack of preparation is much more likely, as we have all seen Ben's flashes of uber-talent, they just don't come as consistently as those that put the work in.

I keep reading post after post about how Ben has to change his style of play, Ben has to improve, etc. etc. I will keep posting what I think is obvious - Ben is not going to change. Good, bad and ugly, he is what he is. Quite honestly, if I was him, I wouldn't change either. He has one of the best winning %'s in the last 8 years, won a couple of Superbowls and just started the Probowl for the AFC. Imagine being in that position - if someone said you had to make major changes you would tell them to go ---- in a hat. I am not saying he couldn't get better, I am saying he won't get better. Best thing the coaches can do is fashion an offense to put him in the best possible situations, let him do what he does, and hope he can get us to 1 or 2 more Superbowls.

I'm not trying to throw you to the wolves, but this basically sounds just like what Ariens said of him.

Just because someone has had and is successful doesn't mean they couldn't or shouldn't refine their work, habits or preparation. Im not trying saying to re-tool his mechanics or throw an anchor on his legs and try to make him a prototypical pocket passer.

Just commit so knowing the opponent more!

Explain how this can be negative to his game in even ONE WAY?!?!?!!!!

Hey Oldschool - Saying I sound like BA is hitting below the belt!
I think you missed my point. I wholeheartedly agree that he could improve his game. My point is that I believe he is not going to. He has had too much success playing the way he does. He is coming into his 9th year, which means he has developed whatever football habits that he is going to have. I think it is going to be next to impossible for a new OC to convince him to make any substantial changes. I also think that a new OC can do more harm than good going down that road. No matter what, he is the best shot we have for the next few years to win more Superbowls. Get him a better O-line and let him play his game. That, in my opinion, gives us the best chance to win.
