Yep. Definitely. I don't know why more teams don't try. Unless you get a really special guy falling to you, the value up at the top just usually isn't so different from the value a little later. I guess everyone thinks they're getting a really special guy.

If we could get 4 picks in the first 2 rounds, that would go a long way. If next year's draft is anything like 2013's, there will be a ton of guys I'll want. CB, OL, maybe ILB, TE, BPA, whatever. I'd much rather grab as many guys as possible than pin our hopes on one (that, knowing us, might not see the field).

And I still love this year's draft. Le'Veon Bell was my lone "I'm not so sure about this," and he's completely erased all doubt for me. Jones, Bell, Wheaton, Thomas, Williams, and I still like Justin Brown. This year's done, but there's still hope for the near future.

I really hate that I am already looking towards next years draft :frustrated:

TTF is probably right though, I was thinking tonight that all good teams will suffer seasons like this but the Pats haven't, why? Because they stockpile draft picks.

It will be tough to pass up a bona fide stud player that we will most likely be in position to draft though.

Good to see you, Snack. I blame this poor season on you. I'm superstitious and your absence must have something to do with the team's record. I shun all logic from here on out. :lolol:

Oh, and I agree, 4 picks in the first 2 rounds would be sweet.

I actually thought about putting the counter back up, but having it count down to the draft. Too soon? :lolol:
It certainly doesn't hurt to stockpile those picks. That's for sure.

I still find it funny we're talking offensive line, when we just gave up 55 points to an average Pats team. But, we have holes everywhere, so who knows........

Eh, less free time than in the past, plus I was always more of an offseason poster anyway, plus I can't stand this place anytime we lose (or win by less than 40 points), so...

Yeah, too soon for the draft counter. This season has been unofficially over since week 1, but I say wait until we are mathematically eliminated.

I'm in agreement we trade back unless Jake Matthews is there.

Matthews is a technician, as opposed to the physical freak we usually take. For example, DeCastro was a technician and Adams was an athlete... we see how that's worked out. Matthews is very smart, great motor, all the measurables you want. Would step in day 1, and hopefully be our Joe Thomas. Oh yeah, and the son of a Hall of Fame offensive lineman.

Then I saw we trade down in 2nd and take a bunch of defense in rounds 2-3 (if we could pick up a 3rd in a trade down we could get 3 picks in 2/3 with our compensatory pick for Wallace).

If we finish top 5 we have a shot.

Teams that could finish top 5 are probably Tampa Bay, Jacksonville, Minnesota, New York, Atlanta, St. Louis...

Of those I think the Giants and Rams are the most likely to target Matthews. The rest would probably take a QB or Clowney if they finish ahead of us.

Good thoughts. I'd say that having a top pick isn't always about that 1st rounder. It's the value picks that come later in the subsequent rounds.

Picking 20-30 lands you 51-61 in the second. 5-10 puts you 36-41 netting 2 (supposedly top 50 players). Just think if you trade down from your top 5 and pick up another 2nd and 3rd. You can effectively get real quality guys to fill out your roster/talent pool in one draft!

I know people are all about Matthews and lewan. there really are some other LT's in this draft though that are pretty darn good that the draft guru's have not spent a lot of time on. Matthews was easy to put at the top because that's where they had him last year. this is a pretty deep tackle class this year though. some of these guys will start making some moves upward before it's over.

hurst has actually dropped some. erving is on the rise to the top. lewan is actually slipping some. there is still going to be movement. I have been watching a few. they are quite talented in their own rite.

keep your eys on : Justin britt from Missouri. ed olsen from minn. the new scherff in town from iowa. < he's a mean one mr. Grinch. morgan moses from Virginia. the kid from ND that they are pigeon holing as a guard is a pretty good LT first off. there are several others that, too are players a team could win with and they could be had a little later. I would like to see a couple stockpiled.

the more I think about the way we bring rookies along so slow, the more I think we can't do this anymore. times have changed. the rules have changed. the length of contracts have changed on draft picks , so they better get on the field.

as I sit here tonight and watch tampa bay play, I see jamone merideth. we had him here and he never saw the field. he's playing LG for them and on some formations, he jumps out to the RT spot as an extra blocker for them. this does two things. gives them extra GOOD blocking on the edge, but they also get a new kid in at guard on that play covered up at gurad but game experience. merideth never even saw the field here as our qb gets pummeled and injuries have built over the years with patches put on. just another guy we had and just gave away. why can other teams make these guys players and we can't?

draft guys that can fit together not one's mel kipper likes because of certain size and speed are prototypical. we are not just picking one guy. the guy next to him and the guy next to him all have to mesh as one. we are not picking individuals but one unit that has to fit together.

I still say we need an offensive mind brought in to help with that side of the ball. keep an eye on some of these other LT's that are out there and don't make knee jerk reactions to the top guys. they have some faults too. too much comes from where these guys play sometimes, instead of how they play.

I agree, Mac. The OT position in thi sdraft appears to be very deep, so we are situated well to take the guy that we want and fits us best, or gamble and take the best of the WR/OLB crop and hope we get a talented LT early round 2. I'd rather shore up the LT spot without question, so I'd prefer to take one of the top guys, whoever it may be. I like what I read on Scherff, and what I see/read on Lewan. Kouandjio from AL seems intruiging as well.

I think the only way we do not go LT with our first pick is if we go Mike Evans, Sammy Watkins, Clowney or Barr, and maybe even Louis Nix if his passion checks out. I really, really hope we go LT. I'd even go overkill and take two OT's in the first two rounds if another stallion is there for us in round 2. I wouldn't prefer it but wouldn't be opposed to it, either. We must get a LT this draft (or FA).

britt is on the rise. I have been watching these guys this year. some of the guards and centers too. I've been paying close attention to them only. suffering through games I didn't really want to watch, but hey, it's all for the cause right? LOL.:lolol:

britt is mean and does well against speed, and double moves. he holds his ground well against the bull rush and can run block. he's mobile. so is erving and so is scherff. olsen isn't bad either. the kid from bama isn't bad but i'm not sure he's a good plug and play yet. lewan I don't really care for. Matthews I think gets some hype because of who's kid and nephew he is. he's got holes too. I want a guy from a pro style offense that knows how to pass protect. we have them already from these running qb style offenses. our's does but not by choice. LOL.

i'd like more LT's, we have way too many RT's on the team. we teach the meanest new LT to play on the right. we take the best pass protector LT and put him on the left. gilbert goes. whimper goes. foster goes. we sign velasco and Wallace. we see where embernate and pouncey are in their rehab around draft time, or bring in a couple high priority UDFA's. (mason walters Texas.) we see how adams fairs the rest of the season.

You Build It and They Will Run. < did I say that right? ;):smiley1:
